US1 is a great ride in the fall. The colors were beautiful and the weather cooperated with 70 degree days. Taking our time, we saw far more things and visited far more places than if we were on the interstate.

Hadn't been here in years. It was October Fest weekend so first attempt found parking completely full so we has to leave without going in store. Tried again next day. Success.

This is an incredibly beautiful drive, particularly in the fall. A must see destination. It's a long, slow drive, but worth every second. The fall colors are truly stunning. Enjoy!

Although it was great to drive through Kennebunkport, we wish we would have driven to Portland then switched from the interstate to RT 1 as the towns north as the towns are beautiful.

Freeport has all types of stores plus some of the best restaurants . This is a super time to shop there. Most of the store have great sales

Don't miss any of the Light houses, song the way especially the Head Light in Portland, the Union bakery in Brunswick cake and Hello Dolly bars, Docks Seafood in South Portland.

My personal favorite portion of the trip, we took route 1 from Portland to Bar Harbor. Seeing the fishing industry up close and personal was very enlightening, and the way the towns created the mythical harbor town atmosphere was idyllic. Beautiful ocean views and plenty...More

We drove this stretch most recently in Freeport. There is a Roadside Americana stop with the BIF (Big Freeport Indian) at 117 Hwy 1; and all the well-known shopping 3 miles up the road with LL Bean anchoring countless shops and cafes. Traffic does get...More

We hit almost all of the shops and everyone was very friendly. Do LLBean last as it is open 24 hours.
