Helen Taylor trail to Palmoa Peak, then crossed knife's edge. Strenuous but amazing and EVERY hiker should do it once in their lives. Don't be scared by the rumors about it. Was not half as bad as it sounds.

But well worth the effort. Great views, great challenge, quite simply the best hike in the Eastern US.

Climbing the mountain was a challenge. I was concerned that I might have problems with the new plate and pins in my ankle but they fared well during this test drive. The view from the top was amazing. definately something worth while to do

Mt. Katahdin is an amazing collection of peaks and trails to challenge everyone. The views are priceless, but take the commitment and level of required preparedness seriously.

Knife edge is my favorite trail, like walking along the top of the world, amazing views, but they are all great. It's worth the effort.

We have hiked most all of New Hampshires 4000+ footers but this mountain takes the cake. Every way up is challenging and most trails are more technical then anything else in the northeast. Not for the faint of heart, but one for the bucket list.

My wife and I hiked into Chimney Pond from the trailhead at Roaring Brook campground. It's 3.3 miles each way, with a 1400 foot elevation gain. The whole trail is rock and boulder strewn and requires a good level of fitness to complete. Most people...More

We want to go up and camp in order to meet our son as he finishes the AT hike. Some of us may also like to hike Katahdin. Any suggestions on which campgrounds are most convenient to climbing Katahdin?

If you want to finish the last leg of the trip with him Katahdin Stream Campground is right on the AT. It takes the AT(known as the Hunt Trail) up the mountain. We stayed here last October and met several through hikers... More

Many. The Hunt trail goes up past Katahdin Stream Falls, and if you head the opposite direction from K.S. campground you come to "Little Niagra" and "Big Niagra" both of which are impressive.
