We enjoyed Thuya, though less than we expected. And we were surprised that the only direction offered online for parking (on the main road) required a long, steep climb with awkward footing and big puddles. Suspecting that there must be vehicle access, we forged on and there is indeed a narrowed windy road to the gardens and a very adequate... More

These gardens and lodge are absolutely worth the walk (or drive) up the hill. Peaceful, colorful, lots of hummingbirds and butterflies. Go to meditate or learn about the wide variety of flowers. Walk the trails through the woods. Relax.

Beautiful garden I watched several hummingbirds buzzing around the flowers. If you can manage to enter via the back gate from the Eliot Mountain trail, it's magical!

My wife & I opted to walk up the path from the parking lot off Route 3 to the Thuya Garden two months ago(June 2016). This wasn't a difficult ascent but gave lovely views down to Northeast Harbor. We opted not to go into the Thuya Lodge but spent about an hour walking through the main garden area. One can... More

Hidden in the hills of Northeast Harbor is the Thuya Gardens.Take in the wonders of the different flowers and shrubs of the area.Walk the trails in and outside the gardens. Take as long as you and take all the pictures you can. Word can not describe its' beauty, you need to go and see for yourself.

A gorgeous mini hike - up hill but worth the climb! The views overlooking the harbor were fabulous and the gardens absolutely amazing. We were there while the gardens were in full bloom and it was so worth it!

If you love peaceful, well-attended gardens, you will fall in love with these two gardens. They are like jewels along the coast of Maine near Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The Asticou Azalea Garden paths wind along water pools that reflect the forested gardens. The Thuya (the name comes from the type of pine that was planted 100 years... More

Any visit to Mt.Desert Island should include a stop at Thuya Gardens. If physically able, I recommend to park in the little parking g lot on 3, just past the Asticou Inn. It's a straight up walk through a beautiful wooden area. Stop often and turn around to view NE Harbor. If you'd like, once you get the the Gardens... More

Stopped in at Thuya Garden first. If you don't want to take the 200+steps up, make sure to continue all the way to the main gates. Great space and can hike to Asticou, Very relaxing and worth the stop.

We wanted to climb the Eliot Summit and came to find this place. What a nice surprise. The garden is beautiful and the lounge is very cozy. Highly recommended.
