The Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad volunteers have done a great job of preserving this slice of Maine's history. Their re-built Forney steam engine is a beauty. Once again you can hear the sound of a train's steam whistle in the woods of Maine! The volunteers were very friendly and helpful and you could poke around the roundhouse looking... More

Whether riding in the open excursion car on hard wooden benches or in the comfy, ornate closed car with etched glass decorations and brass fittings, this is a great way to experience a part of Maine history. The restoration and operation of the SRRL is a tribute to the dreams, persistence, knowledge, and hard labor of many amateur train enthusiasts.... More

Perfect for little kids and big kids alike to bring history back to life. Highly recommend doing some research before taking a ride to get the most out of the... More

This railroad is a wonderful window into the past of the Sandy River and Rangley Lakes area. The volunteers who have lovingly restored the train and cars are also loaded with the history of it and the area.

This RR is a segment of the SR&RL RR of the 18 70'etc. It is a "Two Footer" and a fun take. It does not operate all the time...but odd weekends in Summer. Near Halloween there is a special Ghost Train which is hugely popular. Early Sept.

On a gorgeous Columbus weekend we traveled to the western lakes and mountains of Maine for a spectacular display of fall foliage at its best. On Saturday we took in the Ghost Train at the Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad. This is definitely on a to do list if you are touring with children in that area in the... More
