This is an amazing art museum for a city the size of Portland Maine. The beautiful building was designed by I M Pei. The collections and special shows are world class. I left the area just prior to its grand reopening of a so-called new museum experience, so I am unable to comment on that. Worth the price of admission,... More

We like smaller museums -- they are so much more approachable than the large ones. Portland Museum of Art just 6 weeks ago opened after being closed for about 6 weeks to totally redo their installation. I never saw the old one, but the new one dazzles! Spread over 4 floors, it mixes modern, impressionist, and other periods to great... More

My husband and I did not initially plan to visit here, but the weather got a little chilly and rainy so we decided to duck inside for a bit. This museum was really quite impressive with a least two Monet paintings to view. We enjoyed the idea that the art museum expanded to include multiple buildings, but once we left... More

The museum is a sophisticated high level venue. However all the people are friendly and helpful. It has all the classic attractions however the smaller exhibits are innovative and interesting.

PMA has a well-curated collection of artworks (from Maine artists and others) housed in an I.M. Pei-designed building. The museum also sponsors tours of Winslow Homer's house in Scarborough during the summer and has film and lecture series. They also own the McLellan House mansion next door. They also have children's activities, and are conveniently located next door to the... More

The Portland Museum of Art is a gem. It has a fine permanent collection, which includes Maine artists, along with excellent selections from artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. The exhibitions are generally quite good. The current exhibitions, featuring works from the Black Collection, and the Wagstaff and Lauder photography shows, are first rate.

Because I live in Maine, I visit the Portland area museum with some frequency. It is such a fine museum. The permanent collections are tastefully exhibited and the, featured collections . In past visits I have been struck by the great care taken to showcase the artwork.. The is a must see on any visit to Portland.

Thank SBLMaine
