We visited the Fort as part of our stop at the Observatory. There is a small set of exhibits about the fort, but mostly it is just being able to walk the property and see all the different parts. We enjoyed our time here!

The fort is massive. Built out of granite blocks, this will stand forever if the water/ice doesn't move any. In a way a monument to the way our government has always worked as it wasn't finished until it was pretty much obsolete-but see it hear the story and enjoy what was done and be impressed by its size.

What a really fun place to explore. Be prepared to spend at least 2 hours here. I rushed through the place and it is huge so it took us 2 hours.

We brought our kids and in-laws here when family was in town. I thought it was be a quick walk about and see the building. I had no idea how big and how many things there were too see. We spent at least 2 hours there. Loves of hallways, tunnels, buildings, and a beautiful ocean view. All of us really... More

We were in this part of Maine on our way back from Nova Scotia and wanted to see the new bridge. We did not expect that the Fort Knox Historical Site would be so close by and would be so very interesting! This was completely unexpected and resulted in a delay for our trip but it was very worthwhile. The... More

This is an interesting fort. There are 2 underground batteries ... don't forget to see those also. But, it would be somewhat boring if we didn't get a ranger tour. There were no posted tour times, but all we had to do was ask and they were more than happy to provide a tour. The guide was a self-proclaimed "war... More

Massive stone fortifications that never saw a shot fired in anger. But an impressive piece of engineering. Interpreters on site were very helpful and fun to talk to.

They have many events they have throughout the years. Our favorite is freight at the fort. It is where they turn the fort into a haunted house. It is amazing. They also do historic tours and other summer events. Pick your favorite and go!

Fort Knox was built in the mid 1800s but was never actually used in battle. There are endless places to explore, beautiful park grounds, and the view across the by to Penobscot is lovely. Great place to picnic and run around. Kids would have fun exploring.
