Worth the trip of trying to find it!

Stunning views of the canyon! I can't believe we found it - I thought for sure we were lost - but around a couple of bends and lo and behold there it was!

We stopped here on a whim and were glad we did. It was a perfect stop on our drive from the Portland area to Rangeley. Gorgeous setting, cool rock formations, and fun climbing around. We would recommend it!

We have been going to the Rangely area for over 25 years and never knew about Coos Canyon.I wish someone had told us as it is a beautiful setting and also a great place to have a picnic and fun with the family. There are natural pools for all ages to swim in Rock climbing on the canyon shores and... More

Yup,, it's kinda sad to see what used to be a quiet family spot go downhill. There were broken glass beer bottles in the path and rivers edge as well as a multitude of cigarette butts.. A person had relieved him/herself next to our campsite in the middle of the night and just left it with toilet paper. The site... More

We came here with the thought of the kids trying to pan for gold. We had brought gold pans that we already had. After getting a quick tutorial at the local shop, we set out to look for gold. We spent about a half hour gold panning and the rest of the time swimming. This turned out to be a... More

This is a great place to spend an hour or a day. It's not the Grand Canyon but it is a special little gem in western Maine. Take a minute to look around at the geological formations that created this place. Granite polished smooth by glacier melt water, mineral intrusions forced through the stone by huge underground pressure. Pan for... More

This is a nice attraction for sightseeing, a picnic, or to bask in the sun and spray at the falls. The falls are in a deep gorge with dramatic rock formations carved by the rushing water. There's plenty of picnic areas and rest room facilities. Across the street there is an ice cream shop and general store, and you can... More

We vacation in Rangeley and were looking for something different and unique. We heard about panning for gold in Coos so we decided to check it out. Very cool and unique gorge. Our issue was, there really wasn't many signs explaining where you could go pan. We as a family have panned out west in places like Idaho, California &... More
