We stopped in for a quick visit. We probably did stay more than 20 minutes. They had good selection of antiquities from island life dating back up to 150 years. It certainly gives a sense of what it must have been like in the early...More

If you want to learn more about the history, especially anecdotal, about Vinalhaven this time s a fun game lace to go. Just down the hill is the Cemetery where ch also proved interesting in a long belt site overlooking an inlet.

Beautiful museum. Tons of interesting facts about the island. Great for adults and children. Staff welcoming and helpful.

In addition to themed exhibits, there is lots of memorabilia gracing the walls and binders full of photos and other information to browse through. If you have an island connection, plan to say for awhile.

My grandfather lived and is buried on Vinalhaven. His sister, my great Aunt lived there. I visited here as a child and LOVED it. A "must see" for history keepers of the area.

I'd go again as it is not possible to take it all in. Pictures, old kitchen tools, advertisements, and tidbits about how they use to live-its all there. Allow plenty of time.
