There is no better place to watch the waves crash against the rocky coast of Maine. Could sit there for hours listening to the waves crashing against the rocks. Plenty of place to explore. Not as crowded as Acadia NP so this is a great place to escape to.

Two vans, two spotting scopes, 25 pairs of binoculars, 8 hours of memories. Guided by Dr. Brian Olsen, we spotted Harlequin Ducks, Horned Grebes, Black Scoters, Surf Scoters, White-winged Scoters, Common Loons, Buffleheads, and so, so many more. Although cold, the plentiful places to stop and get out of the car along the Schoodic Road to check the surf and... More

A beautiful place to enjoy breathtaking views of thesea, the coast, the lobster boats, pulling traps and cruise ships heading to Nova Scotia.

I went in late October so it was too cold to get out and enjoy the entire area, but I loved what I did get to see! Every way you look is more beautiful than the last. Can't wait to get back to other parts of Acadia National Park to do some more hiking!

There is plenty of parking available at Schoodic Point so that you can see some of Maine's incredible coastline! There are several information boards explaining the stone making up the shoreline and talking about what you're seeing (or might see). The day we visited was drizzling so the sky was overcast and the view was hazy. But, it did make... More

We started out from Ellsworth on a cloudy day for Schoodic Peninsula which is also a part of Acadia NP (save your entrance pass although we did not came across a checkpoint..). The Schoodic loop road is a short (13 miles) nice coastal ride. The peninsula has lighthouses (Mark Island in the distance and Prospect Harbor up close), fishing villages... More

Schoodic Point is part of Acadia National Park but separate from Mount Desert Island - the main portion of Acadia. It is easily accessible from Bar Harbor or Ellsworth via coastal route 1 (very pretty). Schoodic Point is a rocky formation of dark basalt that extends into the ocean, and is a great spot to watch the ocean, admire beautiful... More

When visiting DownEast Maine, too many people concentrate on the commercial/overcrowded Bar Harbor area and the more known hikes in Acadia National Park on Mt.Desert Island & omit the extra time it takes to travel down to Schoodic Point. Believe me it is well worth the trip. Huge, walkable (at lower tide of course) tiers of ledges that jut out... More
