We really enjoyed our visit to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. While waiting for the train the visitor center was a nice, cozy place to hang out. The Christmas decor was fun and what a beautiful job they did on this building. Love when towns embrace the history and save and reuse buildings.

A wealth of info on what to do in and around Cumberland. Excellent location by the train station and the beginning of the passage and C and O canal trails. Very helpful staff.

This is a neat historic building, some statues out along the front, information inside with the park's service. A playground out front my son had to play on. The Maryland Western Railroad is here as is the C&O Canal.

I had time to spend in Cumberland and happened to be at the Visitor Center. A lady in the gift shop was extremely helpful to me in finding a proper parking spot for my vehicle and then recommended places to eat and shop. There are museums and points of interest at this location. It is also the location of Mile... More

The staff was very friendly and very informative. While they were busy they did not seem hassled and appeared to enjoy their interactions.

My husband and I visited here when we were in downtown Cumberland. He is a history buff, so we very much enjoyed the elaborate museum they have in back. The staff was also very friendly and helpful

They have a great expedition of the canal and its workings. There is also a gift shop, and a live person to answer questions

This summer our goal was to explore our great state of Maryland. Our travels took us from Assateague to Cumberland. We have a rich history in Maryland, including the C&O Canal. Come and explore this treasure. The NPS staff are terrific. From the visitors center you can plot out your course to best explore the area. Unfortunateely, the tains run... More

I love this visitor center. It is always staffed. It has a tiny gift area, and plenty of brochures. The other side has a large display area with historical displays. There is a nice fountain outside with many benches and a children's play area.
