Howard County Parks and Recreation do an excellent job keeping this park rustic while making it accessible. They maintain it beautifully. There is a treasure trove of variety from picnicking for many group sizes, to camping or cabin renting, to swimming, to tubing, to swinging from a tire swing before taking a plunge. The trails are beautiful but not overly... More

I have a list of places in Maryland I want to see and the swinging bridge at Patapsco State Park was on the list. It's a nice park with a paved walking trail. It was not as nice as the C&O trail that I walk several times a week but it was nice for a warm afternoon walk. The park... More

My husband and I purchased their Park Pass in 2016 and loved having the option to get into the park without carrying cash with us. We visit at least one time a month on the weekends This particular visit though was for camping Father's Day weekend. We chose to camp in the Hiltop area. The camp site was fairly private,... More

We love taking the dogs to Patapsco and frequently do so when we have visitors in town. The combination of paved trails and hiking trails means there's terrain for any ability level. It's usually peaceful, the trails are well-marked, and there are several access points. The river is beautiful. Overall, the park offers four-season activity.

We went for a stroll here on New Years Eve. We did the Grist Mill trail which was all paved and wheelchair accessible too. It was about 8km return and takes about 1.5-2hrs. You could see the trail was still being repaired from the floods but was great to walk along and support with a donation.

There are great trails in the Patapsco Park, especially in the Avalon area. You can walk along the river, in the woods and to a Cascade Falls. There are cookout areas you can reserve. Playgrounds for children and real restrooms.

I live five minutes from the park. I have fished, hiked and camped here. At times the park is only a half miles wide but is 33 miles long. It is truly a hidden gem. My only problem currently with the park the large numbers of immigrant park users who come to the park to enjoy the river but don't... More

This park was a surprise! It is a hidden gem. They prefer reservations. We did not have but called to find out if they had an overnight space with electricity. A "LIVE" person answered the phone 443-534-1762 and checked spaces to verify they would have room if we arrived within 3 hours. We were greeted at the gate by a... More

It was difficult to enjoy the tranquility of the woods when all one could hear was the ear shattering noise of a stereo system blasting from the picnic shelter. The noise lasted for the entire 2 hours we were hiking and we finally left in disgust. Of note, mountain bikers nearly ran us off the 'hikers only' trail on several... More

A great place to hike. There are several areas within this large state park. It has creeks and a river running all through. It is beautiful. There are areas to picnic and places to play, like the tire park.
