I thought I knew about yoga. Then, on my first visit to Chatham, I came across Chatham Lighthouse Beach Yoga. Valerie, a certified Kripalu instructor, starts her class promptly at 7:30 am on the wide expanse of beach just beneath the lighthouse. Class begins slowly and Valerie guides all her students, and there 40 of us that morning, through a... More

My daughter found this when searching for things to do in Chatham. It was such a beautiful morning! The sun was out and the waves gently crashing. This is for all levels. Try in once. It was awesome. My son came with me the next morning. He thought it was cool.

This is absolutely worth being there at 7:30. I am not a very experienced Yoga practitioner, but it was a very lovely non-judgmental group and instructor. Really a unique experience -- Kripalu is the Yoga of Compassion, and the class very much focuses on the beach -- the sounds, the sand, etc. As if that was not enough to get... More

Val is so lovely and what a better way to start the day than yoga on the beach -- water and sand and sun and coffee in town after -- the best!

I have been to beach yoga in other places, but this was the first practice where the instructor made specific use of the sand--how you placed your hands and feet in the sand, so that it provided feedback and structure to the poses. The setting was of course lovely; no seals that day, but plenty of bugs! Fortunately, the instructor... More

We were staying just up the road from Lighthouse Beach in Chatham and I saw an advertisement for yoga on the beach. We arrived at 7:30am, and it was a foggy cool morning, just beautiful to be there with all of the others practicing yoga and meditation in those surroundings. We were hooked and went four times all together in... More

As a person who does yoga, this was the most memorable class I have ever taken. Valerie the instructor was kind, compassionate and intuitive during her class. Being on vacation and doing yoga on the beach while listening to the waves come in and go out only made the serenity even more deep. The ability to watch the seals in... More

This beach yoga class was amazing! Much to my surprise, 7:30 AM is the best time of day to be on the beach. The setting is peaceful and wild simultaneously. The Kripalu teacher gave clear, detailed instructions and options for different poses. No props needed, just a beach towel & sunglasses. I loved "ocean sounding breath" next to the ocean.... More

Loved this- I was staying in South Chatham with my family for 4 days. Spent 3 mornings here-a ten minute drive from Chatham Tides Resort. What a great way to start the day! If you are driving, get there 5-10 minutes early to park.

Yoga on the beach is marvelous. Valerie is an excellent yoga teacher, the sand makes a perfect base to work on, and the location is lovely and peaceful. Best when the wind is blowing in from the ocean, otherwise you will need insect repellent, which she provides. It is one of the highlights of my summer. If you don't hear... More
