Henry Sleeper was a pioneering interior decorator a century ago. Most normal people would re-decorate an existing room in a new style when they wanted to try a new look. Mr. Sleeper instead added an additional room to his house! Thus you will enjoy a rambling home of dozens of little rooms decorated in variety of styles, usually attractive and... More

We found this place by mistake and absolutely loved it.. The tour allowed you to see the home of the 1st interior designer. You are able to walk around the home and see it as it was in the early 1900's the grounds are peaceful. well worth the trip

This is a great little historic gem located close to everything that the Gloucester/ Cape Ann has to offer. We took the hourly tour and found it very informative. My wife, a history buff, was intrigued by the 3 hr nooks and crannies tour where you see all the rooms and get even more details. Beautiful views of the harbor... More

I first came here in the 1980s, I remember being with my mom, and I was so excited to return, years later. This house has been influential in how I decorate, especially in grouping colors together, and the memory of my visit has stayed with me for decades. I only hope you can have as amazing a time as I... More

This is a fascinating house to visit with spectacular views. It has a rich history and unique architecture. A great place to go on a not so great beach day.

There are so many fascinating historical homes in New England, but not many as stunning inside and out as this one. If you're visiting Gloucester you should fit this museum into your schedule. It's right on the harbor and the views are breath-taking. The home is full of history and they give a great tour.

This was a last minute stop. Boy am I glad we did it. What a beautiful home. Mr. Sleeper collected many interesting things over the years. He loves his George Washington and colored glass that's for sure. The grounds are amazingly kept. They are military friendly and provide discounts of up to 50%. Loved the details in this home. You... Odd sort of a place in a beautiful location. Good for killing some time, I suppose. Locals get to visit free on certain days.

This house has so much history and beautiful views of the ocean and the town of Gloucester. The rooms are furnished with period items. The tour guides are knowledgeable and friendly. Take the tour if you can. Leave lots of time to view the interior of the house as well as the spectacular grounds. Sit and enjoy the views of... More

This was totally unexpected; the room with authentic Chinese hand-painted wallpaper and the dining room with the windows that lowered via pulleys so you could sit looking out over the inner harbor. What a truly creative and whimsical mind!
