This house museum is a gem of modern art and architecture in the Berkshires. The home and art of George L.K. Morris, and his wife , Suzy Frelinghuysen , both of whom have works on exhibit in major American art museums. The history of the family is also fascinating: Morristown, NJ.; Guvenor Morris who signed the Declaration of Independence and helped finance the Revolutionary War, and on and on. Situated next to Tanglewood on Hawthorne St, don't miss it on your trip to the Berkshires.

Rare peak int the art scene from the 30 to the 60's
A well informed docent gave us a great education into these little takes about artists.
The architecture was as impressive as the paintings

All it takes is an hour of your time, and you can have a meaningful visit of the International Style home and studio of the extraordinary Modernist artist couple of Suzy Frelinghuysen and George Morris. Our guide Sam was excellent, sharing engaging tidbits of biography, art history, and gossip to illuminate the underappreciated work of these artists and their strangely privileged lives. The grounds are gorgeous, and the Bauhaus-style home will fascinate architecture aficionados. In addition to the work of the former residents of this home and studio, there is also a small collection of Leger, Braque, Arp, Gris, Picasso, Miro, and others.

Our tour began as soon as we parked and were whisked by golf cart up to this eclectic and intriguing house. Our guide Drew was kind and knowledgeable and we were astounded at the collection and architecture. This is a hidden treasure and well worth the trip, and gives you an amazing glimpse of a Gatsby-like couple who cared deeply about art.

Wonderful example of modern architecture, great collection of work by a now overlooked master of modern American art.

Very interesting house and studio to visit. It's a well-kept secret in Lenox. Although I have visited the area many times over many years I had never heard of it. The house was the first Modernist house built in New England (1941) and shows the lifestyle of the couple who built it. They were artists associated with the so-called American Abstractionists, artists of the 1930s and thereafter who drew on European art styles, especially Cubism and Surrealism.

Art and architecture lovers will be delighted by this International style house on a large wooded lot in Lenox. The owners' art collection includes works by Leger, Braque, Gris and Picasso. The house is also decorated with murals by the owner.

I visited to see landscaping and architecture of the house. My expectations were very high: 2 artists with a lot of money should create something unique. However, landscaping was really disappointing; it was just plain basic: several trees and some flowers in front of the windows. House has interesting hallway with staircase and wonderful living room with almost cubical proportions, which give nice feel of balance. Dining room and bedrooms do not have anything special. Additional note, which may be helpful: as per our guide, museum has huge art collection, so they change works on display every year. She mentioned that she likes Frelinghuysen latest works, but since they were on display in 2014, it will be probably several years before they will be presented to public again.

Hidden in the woods adjacent to the Tanglewood Campus, we participated in a guided tour of this 1930 artist estate. The contemporary studio and residential building -- apparently the first one built in New England, is full of contemporary art by the two owners and other better known artists, like Miro and Picasso. Many walls are also decorated with frescoes, again mostly cubist style designed and applied by the owners. Other than a few improvements the house is left in its original state and, in my opinion, will keep its place architectural history.

Thank you for taking the time to write such an informative review. The modernist architecture houses and displays the well-known Cubist artists you mentioned. We hope you can return August 14th at 3pm when noted architectural historian Richard Guy Wilson will be giving a slide lecture "The International Style of Architecture".
