Every two years our local scout troop visits the island just off of our coast. Each and every time the experience has been excellent. Lots of exploring including the climb to the top of both light house to the on site museum to all of the various trails and out building left behind and restored for visitor to see.

Just a mile off shore from Rockport MA, Thacher Island is a wildlife refuge and home of the iconic twin lighthouses (still operating). Sixty-four acres of natural beauty at the edge of the great Atlantic are accessible by launch on Wednesdays and Saturdays in season, if you plan ahead. The launches book early beginning in May.

Cool twin light houses on a little deserted island. Was a little hard to find but great pics and view of the coast. Loved all the little towns and the drive up cape ann the fall colors were gloroius!

Make your reservations for the small launch from Rockport MA, which seats 6, for a short trip over to Thatcher Island. Beautiful views of the Rockport and Gloucester coastline on the way. Once you arrive at Thatcher, the boat is pulled up onto a ramp and you are free to roam the small island on your own. There are two... More

What a great place to visit away from the busy port. Take the launch out to the island foe a couple of hours, climb the North tower and check out the light that powers the lighthouse and take in the wonderful view. Bring some water and explore the island and its rich history and check out many of its lasting... More

We rented kayaks in town and paddled out on a perfect summer day-calm water and sunshine. Had some confusion on where to come ashore but decided on the ramp which is correct though you then have to carry your kayak up the somewhat slippery ramp to a grassy area. We paid the fee which I think was $5/person and signed... More

Take a kayak out to the island, spend a few hours. Meet the keepers. You can camp out or rent a room in advance... A great excursion...

You can take a boat ride out to Thacher Island, which has two lighthouses on it. It's very picturesque but DO NOT go out there without heavy-dity bug spray. The mosquitos are plentiful and hungry. Still, it's worth a ride out just for the views.
