Getting there can be a challenge but follow the green signs that say sanctuary and you won't have too much of a problem--a 4WD vehicle isn't necessary but it might make you feel better; however, once you get there, there are multiple paths you can take depending on what you want and your endurance level, but regardless, you get up... A bunch of us decided to do this hike with our two dogs, a Boston Terrier and a Golden Retriever. The walk was pleasant and in no time we were on the beach, where we strolled a bit, then resumed the path, re-entering the circuit in a different spot. Following the white markers, we would have been back to the... More

The only things that make this hike anything less than excellent are the ticks and the poison ivy. (The same can be said for pretty much every hike on Martha's Vineyard, so if you're hiking anywhere around there, just be vigilant and stay on the trail.) All that aside, this hike boasts one of the nicest beaches and sweetest views... More

This slice of beach with rugged trails and cliff view of The Elizabeth Islands is a must. One of my three favorite dirt trails on MV. Maybe best in Fall

This hard to find beach is incredible. The walk is 15-20 minutes from the road along a jungle-like path but when you get to the beach, it opens up. There is a beautiful high point which overlooks the beach below and a sea of poison ivy behind you (which is beautiful as long as you don't touch it!). Maybe not... More

If you want to explore a part of Martha's Vineyard known primarily to local people like myself, this is it. It's a beautiful area along the north shore, surprisingly remote, with lovely vistas. Don't let the long downhill dirt road put you off: you will get there eventually. And it's free (unlike many other things on the island).

Cedar Tree Neck Sanctuary is located in the NW of MV in West Tisbury. It's spectacular and a gem as others relate here. But your map link for Cedar Tree Neck Sanctuary is to a location about 1-2 miles south of Oak Bluffs in NE MV,a location that is inaccessible marsh!

Great spot. Easy walk and a spectacular view when you come near the beach. A beautiful pond on your right as you walk through the dunes to the beach. Turn right and go about 100 yards and do the Headlands loop. Easy and really cool. Only better walk is Menemsha Hills. Oh and be careful on drive down to Cedar... More

Cedar Tree is a gem of a sanctuary. There are a variety of trails all leading to the pebble beach overlooking the Vineyard Sound. There is no entry fee and the trails are all well marked. The walk to the beach in not strenuous and is worth the stroll. Note: There is no swimming for fishing allowed at the beach.... More

We visited this location on a bicycle ride gone wrong or should I say long. We were staying on the southern central part of the island near Edgartown. We decided one morning to take a ride up around the sirport that lead us to this place because ... "we wanted to see the water".... well I would not highly recommend... More
