The Sand Point Lighthouse was constructed in 1867 to direct ships around the Sand point and into the deep water channel of the Escanaba Harbor. This building, with a 4th order Fresnel lens, has been restored to its original appearance, with a turn of the century interior. The building and grounds are on the National Register of Historic Places.

We came to visit the lighthouse only to find that it was closed until June 2018. We were disappointed. When we asked a local man at the nearby marina he said it should be open and was surprised that it was not. The exterior of...More

The lighthouse is closed until June 1, 2018, and so we were not able to enter either the lighthouse or the accompanying museum. The day was sparkling clear, sunny and bright and the immaculate, white, lighthouse just shone brightly. We were able to enter the...More

The Lighthouse wasn't open when we visited, but it was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed walking around the grounds. There were a lot of educational signs that told about the history of the lighthouse.

It was a rainy day and my husband and I needed an inside attraction. Well this sight delivered. Such a wonderful experience, history of the area and docents that knew every bit about the history of Escanaba, MI. I could not have been more impressed!!!

My husband and I were so impressed with the organization of materials in the museum and lighthouse and the story the artifacts told. The highlight of this museum were the two informative young men at the visitors' desks who willing offered their knowledge of the...More

Missed the open time, but plaques around the light house give some of the history. Grounds well kept, with free parking.

My buddy and I have been traversing the lake from Ludington all weekend and find all the lighthouse sites pretty cool if I say so myself. This one has a nice "yard" and boat house to boot. There is a tribute to the Coast Guard...More

The historical museum is literally right next door. Visit the light, read the history, and tour the grounds. Beautifully maintained and a must do on your visit! You can't miss it, the road dead ends into the lighthouse at the bay.

The lighthouse was not open when we were there. That being said it had quite a bit of signage so you could get a feel of the history. Very well kept and tidy!

Sorry I don't remember. We were there about 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon on a weekday. The place was manned by one volunteer and seems to be very well known. You may want to call the town of Escanaba, they may be able to... More
