Most recently attended during art prize. Happened on a short free symphony concert, which was wonderful and beautiful. Admission was free and there were one or two interesting pieces. It's quite a small museum, so don't expect much more than 30 minutes to walk through.

The question should be: Why is this institute driven to make a social comment instead of letting the nature of the art reveal itself? Superior setting, lackluster art work.

wilwriter, we’re sorry you did not fully enjoy your experience at The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA). Contemporary art often deals with contemporary issues and the content and themes present in ‘UNLOADED’ are highly relevant and are certainly part of conversations being had globally. While we understand the exhibition can perhaps be translated into a social commentary, we believe... More

The only problem is parking. It connects to a lot, but it is very expensive. The films are great and often you will get a private showing.

There are so many fun activities from movies to different events. Overall it is a great experience, and it is in the heart of downtown. It is easy to walk to other places from here, so you don't have to look for another parking spot.

So, based on my title, you might think I am going to rip on this place. Wrong! It is well maintained, clean, well situated and well staffed. We have only been there for ArtPrize, but are impressed with the facility. We are both a little old-fashioned when it come to art, so the usual stuff will never appeal to us.... More

This is not just an Art Prize location. Has an year round exhibit space. However, it's the movie side of UICA which is truly good. The best place in West Michigan to watch independent/foreign movies.

Great place to go to get out of the heat and to view some art! Their gift shop is very well priced, with lots of different items.

Nice space, right in Downtown GR, so accessible either by walking, bus or car. Parking per$ is available. Even though the pkace looks huge from the outside, the actual exhibit space is not that big, given that there is a whole floor for administrative purposes. Only visited during free events. Paid admission exhibits are not affordable by young art students.

Thanks very much for your positive review. I hope that you were able to visit all four floors of our gallery spaces - they total 40,000 sq ft. There are periods of time where certain galleries are closed for the installation of new exhibits, so that might have been the case when you came in. Our gallery admission is $5;... More
