Admittedly, this is from a visit a a while ago. I am ashamed to say I have only visited Michigan's State Capitol building twice despite living here my whole life. The building alone is very cool to walk through and observe. However, TAKE THE TOUR...More

You can wander around on your own during the week but it's worth it to also take the tour to get some added info. The building is fully restored and is beautiful.

We went on the Capital Building tour and it was wonderful. Our guide walked us through the building and pointed out the highlights of the building. We visited the House and Senate Chambers. We discussed many of the past Governors and what they wanted to...More

Very typical Capitol building. Ornate dome and rotunda area. Not many statues on the property or on the building.

Michigan's State Capitol Building is beautiful inside and out. The self guided tour was enhanced by the conversation we had with an ex-police officer who was working as a guard outside the Senate chamber. He gave us a lot of inside information about the building...More

Really enjoyed this building. We took the self guided tour on a Thursday morning when the legislature was in recess so basically had the place to ourselves. There is no entrance fee. Plan on spending about one hour to complete the tour.

Like Robert N, depends on when you're visiting the Capital. We visited on a Saturday and parked for free on street that was walking distance.

Scalp before you go. The tours are free and they do have a schedule. The tour guides are very knowledgable.
