Fort Michilimackinac State Park, or Colonial Michilimackinac, is a reconstructed 1715 French fur trading village and military outpost that was later occupied by British military and traders. The park contains Fort Michilimackinac, which has been designated a National Historic Landmark. It was built on the northern tip of Michigan's Lower Peninsula with the primary purpose being a part of the... More

My family had such a fun afternoon here, watching a musket demonstration, watching bread being made, and our kids got to help make colonial cookies which they thought was great fun. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, and the reconstructed buildings and archaeological remains more than satisfied my history bug. We even had a chance to watch archaeologists excavating a... I am usually not one for History tours while on vacation, but this was awesome! We were entertained the entire time we were there! The costumed employees were a delight to talk to!

Being history buffs, we enjoy visiting the fort and have been there numerous times. We usually miss any of the excavating being done because we go in September, but it's always interesting to see what they have unearthed.

We bought that pass that covers this one, the lighthouse, and the one on Mackinaw Island since we are a family of 6 it was the cheapest option. We have 4 kids ages 9, 7, 5, and 3 at the time of coming here. We stayed for about 1 1/2 until we got to see the cannon fire. My 5... More

A great place to go back in time and show the kids what life was like before cell phones!.... Lol!... They do re-enactments, show you how they made bread back then and it is a pretty large fort so there is plenty to see!

I remember going here decades ago and I didn't think much of it but times have changed and so has this fort!!! We enjoyed our time here. They have guides who are well informed and in period costumes. This is a well done executed attraction. A lot of time, dedication and money has gone into this valuable piece of history.

My sister and I were in town for 2016's Fort Freight event and we took advantage of seeing the Fort at night. The weather wasn't very cooperative (extreme cold wind for that Saturday night) but we were somewhat sheltered inside the fort (but not by much). The various activities located all throughout the fort were fantastic. The Ghost Stories around... More

This is a nice way to get some history of the area and do a self-guided tour at your own pace. You can spend anywhere from 1 to 4 hours here depending on how much you really want to read and look at the details of the exhibits. It was well done and one of the favorite parts of our... More
