Great little city to visit. The downtown is a very close to the Lighthouse.
The Lighthouse was great. You can walk down the lighthouse. The water was cold, but crystal clear. The Beach, located at the lighthouse was great. We spent the day there.
There is a volleyball court and bathroom at the beach.
Highly recommend visiting the lighthouse at sunset for some breathtaking views.

Enjoyed this walk to catch a breeze on a hot day. Always neat to see a catwalk. The beach was busy so parking was a challenge. Clear water and a pretty area.

Very disappointed that a well-kept and upscale town like Manistee has not maintained this historic light house! Lol how can some other reviews say it's "nicely kept" when the lighthouse needs a painting in the worse way (e.g., worn out, drawings and graffiti etc) it looks terrible! Also the walkway is hazardous to walk on. For example several areas the cement is uneven and badly cracked open! I find it amazing that the town can't even post some type of safety/risk sign. Since this is a historic site, there are building standards that are being ignored!

It is a beautiful walk down to this lighthouse. Many people go fishing off the pier. At the end of pier nice pictures of distant lakeshore.

We were the only people there. It was 34 degrees. Gloomy. And yet, there is the lighthouse looking so beautiful!

Lighthouse pier was accessible on New Year's Day as ice had melted. Short walk, lighthouse had been painted since I last saw it several years ago. Coast Guard station located at start of pier. Not as large as many other light houses on Lake Michigan shoreline.

I drove up to Manistee to see the Light House. This is an old picture. It has since been repainted and looks nice. I am glad I visited because it was the first light house that I had ever been to that contained a "cat walk". I just rated it an average visit though, because a person cannot go inside and climb to the top of this light house. It is a nice walk on the pier. There is also a nice beach nearby. However, there are much better light houses to visit in Michigan.

Easy to find parking by the Coast Guard station. Short walk to the end of the pier where the lighthouse is. Good photo ops. Beach is nearby and restrooms.

I chose to check out the lighthouse from the Douglas Park side of the river. It's a nice park with pavilions and a few interesting memorials. There is even a nice deck that overlooks the beach. I walked to the end of the pier and took some good photos of boats coming and going with the lighthouse in the background. It was a pretty good morning.

Where do you park to see this? Is it a lot, metered street, etc.?
Is their a north pier camera I can check to make sure the pier is SAFE for me to be walking on the pier. I have traveled 100+ miles to get there and the waves were crashing over the pier. THANK-YOU, for your help!

I do not know of a camera, and yes, our Lake Michigan dictates to us whether or not we can walk out to the light. Do not ever try it when wave action makes the pier wet and slippery, do go to either 5th Avenue beach or First Street beach, and get some amazing pictures! 5th has a walk way for wheel chairs, walkers, or just folks who want to walk almost to water's edge to take pictures. And if it's warm, take a swim, or enjoy a snack at the shelter, there are rest rooms and lots of parking, no charge. There is a cement walkway over to the Coast Guard Station, another photo-op! Any weather, the North Pierhead is beautiful, and doing the job it was built to do, guide ship traffic in a 'strong-willed' lake.
