For anyone who is interested in building a house, you must come and see this. Alden B. Dow was an architect, but his house is very quirky ,and built to fit his specifications and interests. This is the art of the possible and is inspiring in its layout, its colors and its water features.

If modern architecture is your thing, the Alden Dow house shouldn't be missed. Alden Dow was Frank Lloyd Wright's first student at Taliesin, and later partnered on projects. As a kid in the late 60's, we lived in the neighborhood, when Alden Dow was living in the house along with the working studio. We used to play in the ponds... More

I drove in from Lansing with my aunts for a visit. There are guided tours only. Our guide was quite knowledgeable and allowed time for pics and questions. The house is a spectacular, a must-see

It's a remarkable tour of Mr. Dow's home and studio, a former student of Frank Lloyd Wright. If you love architecture or residential design, it's a must visit.

I've been to the Alden B Dow home and studio many times and I never, ever tire of visiting. There is always something that I missed before. Some beautiful nook, furniture or detail that makes this home so special. Every season is beautiful. Don't forget to walk around the Dow gardens when you've finished the house tour:) Highly recommend for... More

Even though the complex is more than 22,000 square feet overall, there is nothing "grand" or enormous about it. While the studio reflects Dow's sense of architectural purpose, his use of hard angles, straight lines, uneven floors, bold colors and his patented block wall system of construction -- the home is, for me, more open, most connected to the physical... We have lived in Midland for nine years and just took this tour this week. We had Sara for our docent tour guide, and she was fantastic. She knew information about the home and also many of the furnishings and decorative arts within the home. I felt that she enjoyed her role and took pride in giving our 16 person... More

We thoroughly enjoyed the docent-led tour of this 26,000 sf home and architecture studio that was built in the late 1930's but looks very contemporary. Alden Dow had worked under Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1930's, and his influence is evident. This was the architect's own family residence, and so there are many personal touches and anecdotes that reveal a... More

Totally awesome architecture with excellent tour guides. Reservations are made separate from the Pines at the Dow Gardens. This home and studio rivals those of Frank Lloyd Wright.
