What visitor's center closes at 4:30 p.m. and locks up the FREE - Outdated, brochures and pamphlets about the state?
Normally we only post favorable reviews of locations. If we did not have a great experience, we just do not post a review to help promote the locations, but this stop was just horrid! So bad that it really upset my wife and something has to be done to either shut down this location or find new employees. What a waste of tax paper's money...
After a long drive from Northeast, Ohio, My 73 year old father-in-law was so excited to stop of the visitors center (which was a tradition when the family traveled in the past) to look over the brochures about the state.
This is really all that he had even asked for on this trip, the fist trip he had been on since 2004. We arrived at 4:20 p.m. and used the facilities. Then, as my wife and her father-in-law were browsing through the materials they were constantly hounded by the employees to hurry up and since they were closing in 5 minutes and had to lock up the gates. Not even giving them the 5 minutes of piece to browse.
I understand people want to close and leave work, BUT...Rudeness and out right being nasty IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! There were plenty of others coming in after us as well.
Questions: Why is this closing so early, the road wasn't closing? Why does it have to close at all, the brochures are free and even outdated, some dating back to 2021. Couldn't there be another shift put on if you have to close?
Oh, and top of it, the employee pointed out that the clock on the wall had the wrong time and was slow when my wife had mentioned that had another 7 minutes.
TO THE STATE OF MICHIGAN: If you read this, I'd recommend getting new employees for this place. The ones you have there now are rude and just do not care about the people who are coming in to find out more about your beautiful state.
Just so you are aware, we are posting this on our blog stie and sharing this horrible experience with our thousands of fans and followers.

It was a new experience. Have never stopped there before. Clean, clearly all about Michigan. If your looking for any type of outdoor adventure, they definitely have a brochure for it.

As visitor centers go - this one is nice - good restrooms and a lot of information to pick up and consider. The staff is very helpful taking time to understand what your trip needs are to help you improve your travels in Michigan.
