It was hot and windy but the views were amazing. The ride down on the board was intimidating but ended up wishing I braked less and got more speed. Lots of ash in the face and in the mouth but an excellent experience.

We went with quetzal trekkers and the guide Thomas. Really good! The trip up the mountain was fun and had good views. The ride down in a board was real fun and after the frist try you could go again for a second time.

Amazing views and the volcano bording is a lot of fun! We did it with Quetzaltrekkers, which give you the chance to do the bord twice! A must do for sure!

Prepare yourself physically and mentally for navigating the loose-rock, uphill trail to the top. It's relatively short but also relatively steep. Lots of opportunities to stop and rest if needed, and take in the amazing views all around. The volcano itself was impressive to see when reaching the top - the smoking rock that we were standing on and the... More

The third volcano we visited in five days, it's distinction is the volcano boarding. Walk up is around one hour, and is not difficult, you can see fumes from the crater but not much else (for crater sighting, go to masaya at night), and going down is very fun (it's more exciting than it seems watching other people go)

Its a must... end of... i did it with bigfoot hostel, and got a good amount of people. Drive to the volcano is about 45min. The tour with bigfoot costs about 800 cordoba (20-25USD). You get a beer, a mojoto and a free tank top. The hike is about 45minutes with a number of breaks along the way. You'll have... More

Don't even just go for the volcano boarding, the views are stunning!! Highly recommend going with Quetzal Trekkers - they cost the same as the rest of town except 30% of their profit goes to local charities

Let me start by saying I'm 63 and not in great shape and I made it to the top-not without difficulty, but nothing serious. the climb is a challenge, but take your time and rest and drink water and most of you will be fine. It's so worth it when you finally get on that board and go sailing down... More

hike up was amazing, slide down was a blast. Highly recommend this. One word of advice, keep your mouth shut on the way down or else you will get a mouth full of dust!

This is the only active volcano you can sled down, how can you pass that up?! I guess if you're easily scared and afraid of heights you may want to skip it. Be sure you're able to walk the hour hike and can carry approximately 10lbs on your back as you'll carry board and gear. We went with Tierra Tours,... More
