Don't even just go for the volcano boarding, the views are stunning!! Highly recommend going with Quetzal Trekkers - they cost the same as the rest of town except 30% of their profit goes to local charities

Let me start by saying I'm 63 and not in great shape and I made it to the top-not without difficulty, but nothing serious. the climb is a challenge, but take your time and rest and drink water and most of you will be fine. It's so worth it when you finally get on that board and go sailing down... More

hike up was amazing, slide down was a blast. Highly recommend this. One word of advice, keep your mouth shut on the way down or else you will get a mouth full of dust!

This is the only active volcano you can sled down, how can you pass that up?! I guess if you're easily scared and afraid of heights you may want to skip it. Be sure you're able to walk the hour hike and can carry approximately 10lbs on your back as you'll carry board and gear. We went with Tierra Tours,... More

Not far away from Leon, Cerro Negro is a very good option for a half day excursion (book from Leon, ask in your hotel/hostel). Bring good shoes and water. You will love the great views and the "volcano feeling".

Super trip Volcano Boarding. Absolutely stunning views, take your camera. I thought this was great value at approx. $31. Pile in a big truck with loads of new people. Hike up the volcano takes about an hour. Dare not to brake on the way down then collect your included beers.

The Volcano is easy to climb, however is about 45 minutes from Leon City so you have to request a shuttle because there are not buses to take you there, unless you wanna add 20 miles hiking the way to the base of the Volcano. Easy to hike, an pretty cool view. I was there when foggy and it was... More

We did volcano boarding it was one of the best activities of our trip! It is a 45 minute walk up the trail to the top of the volcano. and then the funniest part the trip down! Sliding down.

My boyfriend really wanted to go volcano boarding and even though I'm not a fan of adventure sports I thought I'd give it a try. The hike with our gear on our back was pretty difficult because it was about 1 hour uphill surrounded by black rocks during the middle of the day. The view from the top was amazing... More

Awesome trip made with Quetzaltrekker which is a NGO that is donating all profits for children associations. Trip is good, light lunch included, 2 rides even though you have to climb back the mountain. Average of 30-45min depending of your condition. Kate was super nice and scenery awesome! Highly recommend it!
