We spent a week in Las Peñitas and the beach is honestly the nicest beach I have ever seen. Beyond the beach though, the place has a bit of a rough look. It's a weird mix of hotels, restaurants, private homes, and abandoned or run down lots. There's a bunch of wild dogs that are more of an annoyance than... More

This beach was a real find, after volcano boarding the day prior! The northern part of Nicaragua can feel barren with all of the volcanoes and the town that may be busy but are not as refined as Europe and the US. This beach is down a small road speckled with little eateries and hotels. This area definitely feels "beachy",... More

Beautiful spot with lagoon and pacific ocean waves for surfing. Las Penitas is laid back and tranquil. Very genuine Nicaragua. Fishing village. You can watch the catch coming in and fish being gutted and sold by the side of the lagoon Lots of choice for places to stay. All very reasonable. Don't miss it!!

A beautiful and quiet beach. Very few bars/restaurants but those there are tend to have good facilities. I can highly recommend Playa Roca. Some surf shops along the beach but beware of very strong currents especially as they doesn't appear to be any lifeguards anywhere.

The beach is gorgeous. We had a great swim but the waves are breaking right on the beach and are massive so we had to be very careful with our dog as she got somersaulted once and although she had a great time, it's too dangerous for dogs and children. We haven't seen low tide yet so that might be... More

I visited Las Peñitas in the beginning of the season and was a bit surprised how quiet it was. The walk along the beautiful beach passes a few hostels and restaurants, but many of the buildings are empty and even abandoned. I stayed at Playa Roca, and this was also were people seemed to gather during the day and evening.... More

I was wandering the area looking for a overnight accommodation and found the best resort on the beach! I was impressed that the builder and owner is Canadian, as am I. My GF liked the serve yourself beer cooler until 3 AM and we had a memorable time in a "chill" atmosphere.
