I was wandering the area looking for a overnight accommodation and found the best resort on the beach! I was impressed that the builder and owner is Canadian, as am I. My GF liked the serve yourself beer cooler until 3 AM and we had a memorable time in a "chill" atmosphere.

There are several, weird little places and hostals here and beach bars trying to attract local and tourist people, but it's just too funky and dirty and the service and town is bad and off-putting . Sorry but that's the truth.

I wished I had stayed in Las Penitas and day tripped to Leon instead of the other way around. While there isn't much going on, the water beaches are gorgeous and the perfect place to listen to natures music (the surf) while drinking a Tona and having some lunch... I wished we had been there during sunset. From here, we... More

The beaches around Las Peñitas are huge, the water pushes back a lot of sand and sculpts a wide sand corridor. Very Nice. Nothing much to do regarding partying. But there is a rock formation. That sticks out and divides the beach at some point, you can take cool pictures there!

We stayed at a hotel in downtown and drove the 25-30 minutes to Las Penitas. We stopped at a restaurant with beach access. The beach is gorgeous and clean, no rocks or glass or debris in the sand. An okay place to surf, but the view was beautiful. The surf is not that rough. This is a great place to... More

If you dig real local culture, this beach is for you. Off season you will be one of only 30 random people on the entire beach. Some beautiful waves for surfers. Lots of stray dogs and disrepair in the area, tucked in amongst restaurants and hostels. Overall a charming place to visit. Do the Juan Venado national park to see... More

We loved the giant waves and rocky beach. Take local advice on where to swim and copy the local kids techniques on surviving the mammoth waves! Thoroughly enjoyable and stunningly beautiful

Here I surfed nearly every day, always some good waves during the day and you could get course from several surfrentals if you want to or just surf by your own. Also you can go by canoe to experience the nature reserve of Juan Venado.

Bigfoot hostel organise a shuttle to this beach, as well as surfing. When i was there, it was a lighting storm, so no sunbathing occurred, but swimming in the sea with that weather is awesome. Also, the waves are really strong so beware!

I took a day trip from Leon - there's heaps of buses, one an hour from the fruit market about 13 blocks west of the square. Bus takes about 40 minutes and costs 13 cordobas. It goes first to Poneloya the. Doubles back to Las Penitas. When you hop off at the end you have to walk around a bit... More
