Very close from Leon, a taxi took us for 10 bucks. Very good places for eat & drink. The beach is very nice.

Las Penitas has a lot to offer. 20min from Leon. Lots of restaurants and new Hotels. Good for couples and backpackers. And of course surf!

The beach itself was fine. Not white sand like you might find in Mexico or Thailand, but clean and nice enough. The surf was great (not surfing, but the surf), a lot of fun to play in, and the water temp was perfect: cool and...More

Right near the river if you worry about the Pacific tide and swell. Lovely place to be. Lots of locals and hardly saw a tourist ☺️ Loved it!

My expectations where high. Everybody is talking about las Penitas. It’s a beach village but there is nothing to do. Not a nice town, only the beach and a couple of hostels and a few restaurants. There is nobody there. It all looks sad, depressing...More

Not the prettiest beach in the world, but it has some nice rock formations for photos. It's safe and has plenty of accomodations and activities nearby

Penitas beach is a great place to visit even though its not the main reason people come to leon. There were a few surfers but not nearly as many as south at san juan del sur. Not a white sand location, but a cool beach...More

Yes you could get a taxi, and might be more economical if you could share one with others at your hostel or lodging. I don't recall the name of the bus terminal but it was not one of the larger ones. I think it was the... More

KPR77 gave a very thorough answer so I won't add to that other than to say that while my spouse and I have been completely comfortable on the local buses in 4 months of living here, doing the negotiations to get from the... More
