Situated alongside the historic Ridgeway, Waylands Smithy is a neolithic long-barrow (burial mound), now surrounded by trees, giving it a tranquil location. It is difficult to imagine it without the trees there, as it would have been when constructed around 5,000+ years ago. Now it...More

Not worth going miles out of your way to find, but if you are in the area, say to see the white horse, well worth a pop by. Well maintained and easy to access, even on horse back or mountain bike.

From Uffington white horse car park it's a mile and a half hike up to the barrow, but well worth it if you're into your prehistory. It's an excellent example of a Neolithic long barrow and the burial chamber is open, although rather cramped, for...More

Went there whilst walking the Ridgeway. Not too sure how you would access it otherwise. Would require a bit of a walk. Car access up there is limited. I found it to be very peaceful and not really spooky like it said in one of...More
