This park has two parts: the beach for day visits, and the camping side. This review is about the camping. You're definitely not going to get a typical outdoor camping experience here, but it's fine for what it is: a campground in a bustling city....More

We visited in early August and always had neighbors at our tent campsite. We were happy to find hot showers and clean bathrooms. We didn't have any 'critters' visit us, as is often the case in busy campgrounds. We were taken by the numerous hammock...More

Nice location for visiting Traverse City. Be prepared for road and aircraft noise, not terrible but noticeable. Sites are packed in among pines. A visit in 2015 saw us having to switch sites because we could not fit into the site we reserved. Thankfully we...More

A pretty decent Park just across the road from Grand Traverse Bay. A nice bride that safely walks you OVER the road to the beach from the State campground! We love to camp there and the kids have fun on their bikes 🤗

Staff were very accomodating and sites were well kept -- clean. I was surprised at how many other "fall" campers joined us for the weekend. Gorgeous weekend -- great campfires.

The state park backs up to the TART trail. So you can do miles of snow shoeing. Just google TART Traverse Area Recreational Trail for maps. Amazing location.

They do fireworks twice. Once on the 4th and once at the end of the Cherry Festival. So it's nice to see the fireworks right downtown, but then it's a good alternative to watch them the 2nd time from the bay across the... More

The parking lot and entrance close, but if you're walking over from the park nothing and no one will stop you.
