My wife and I recently visited Traverse City. We rented bicycles and road on the TART trail. Easy comfortable riding. The views were great. We try to bicycle every time we visit Traverse City.

Be sure to take in this adventure. Riding to Suttons Bay is a great work out and at the end of the trip reward yourself with a trip to the Hops Lot for a micro brew or the Villiage Inn for an excellent chicken enchilada.

We could hit the trail right outside our VRBO unit, near Front St on the east end of town, follow the water for a bit, then turn around and go back, also ran inland through some nice areas. Wished the trail was a bit wider,...More

The Tart trail is a fantastic use of the old railway lines that used to run around Traverse City, away from the main routes there's plenty of places to get away from the hustle & bustle, I think it was about 17 miles to the...More

I use this trail at least four times per week year round. Very safe family biking or for serous bikers to safely get to county roads. Groomed XC skiing in Winter.

My wife and I rode our bikes from M72/Tom's Market to Acme and back: 20 miles. What a great ride! Along the West Bay, into small neighborhoods, along railroad tracks behind industrial park, between cemetery and airport, through some woods, then along (above) the East...More

We love the trails. It's a great way to get around and avoid the traffic. Paved, clean and safe from traffic. We also love the scenery. You get to see things that you can easily see any other way.

My wife and I spent several days in Traverse City recently and had read about the local bike and walking paths. We weren't sure what we'd find and how easy or difficult they would be. We were quite happy with what we found. The trail...More

We love to ride on flat, paved bike paths with relatively no traffic - and the TART Leelanau Bike Path didn't disappoint! We started in Traverse City mainly just wanting to go for a short ride. We ended up going all the way to Suttons...More

All of these answers are spot on! The TART Trail and Leelanau Trail are very level with gentle slopes. There is a large slope on the TART Trail in Acme as it follows Bunker Hill Rd. to connect to the trail near Williamsburg... More
If we are coming into town next week setting aside a day (5-6 hrs) to ride our bikes on the trail, where would the best place be to park our cars and start on the trail? Maybe a section of the trail where there are sites to stop and take photos of along the way. Thanks.

The TART Trail runs through the heart of downtown Traverse City and along West Bay. This is the best stretch for pictures of the water. You can easily park anywhere downtown as parking rates are very affordable. You can also... More
