The place has been beautifully restored to its original splendor. The volunteers that work there are also very friendly as is the audience who clap for the volunteers at each showing. The popcorn is fantastic, and the treat is to sit in the balcony and see the stars that decorate the ceiling. Movies are always interesting and they have lots... More

We love this theatre. When Michael Moore rescued it and put it into a non profit for the City it was such a gift to us. Never a bad movie. Beautifully restored, volunteer staff, reasonable prices and concession prices, perfect evening for singles, couples, friends. Why not? Thank you Michael.

Theatres like the State are treasures that have to be preserved. The facility is beautiful and it competes well with modern facilities. We saw a movie one day after the death of Debbie Reynolds and were amazed that someone had put together a pre-show tribute with musical clips. It has a good mix of new and old movies. We were... What a cool place this is! I've never been here prior to this visit and wow have I been missing out! It's like walking going back in time as soon as you walk in the doors-everything is old fashion looking, velvet chairs (very comfortable), curtains on the walls, the ceiling looks like twinkling stars, it's absolutely gorgeous!!! I saw that... More

Go back and remember a time when the movie cost was reasonable and popcorn was a must. That's what happens when you visit the State Theatre you feel like a child again. From old movies to new, or watching a debate the State Theatre is the place to be.

Always a great variety of movies. Often shows movies from the Traverse city Film Festival. Great mid-day rates. Many 25 cent movies. Many free events. A bonus for Traverse city residents

This old-fashioned movie theater is an absolute gem. It is beautifully restored. The seats are plush and comfortable, with cup holders on each side and lots of leg room in front. The walls and soft lighting are lovely, and the curtains are gorgeous. The best part is the star-filled sky twinkling on the ceiling. From a functional standpoint, this theater... More
