My wife and I had not biked Cannon River for over 20 years when we were pulling a child cart. It still had some gravel portions at the time. We totally enjoyed the return. The trail is totally paved and well maintained. Like all abandoned railroad paths, the grade was very mild and it is easy to imagine passing through... More

1st time doing the trail and we are not regular bikers. We really enjoyed our day! It is flat, well maintained, and we were able to do it! ( 2 middle aged and 2 teens) Water fill stations and bike repair/pumps along the way. Scenic. It was busy with frequent bikers passing us. Plenty of areas to sit and rest.... More

We rode our bikes on county roads from Red Wing to Cannon Falls. After lunch we returned via the Cannon Valley Trail. Very scenic! Amenities along the trail were outstanding. Trail very well maintained.

We were one of the lucky ones living in Red Wing when the Cannon Valley Trail was brand new (part of it was still gravel). We were on it almost every night after work and on weekends. Selfishly speaking, word has been out for a long time about this great trail. It's easy for all levels because there are few... More

This trail is beautiful and very well maintained. The biking is easy going and accessible for all ability levels. There are many scenic stops and lookout points. You can bike through a few small towns with attractions like wineries and ice cream shops.

My wife and I started at Cannon Falls and rode the trail to Welch's Station. This is about nine miles one-way. We were very impressed with the sandstone/limestone cliffs covered by ferns; the beautiful overlooks of the Cannon River Valley; and the shaded nature of most of the trail. At times the blacktop surface was a little more bumpy that... More

We rode the trail on July 28, 2016, from Red Wing to Cannon Falls. Such a beautiful and well kept trail. Most of the ride is shaded. In spring and fall, with fewer leaves on the trees, there would be fabulous views of the river; the summer views were still lovely but more infrequent. Great bakery (High Quality Bakery) in... More

One of my favorite trails for sure! Well kept, plenty of stopping places/benches/porta- johns along the way if needed. Welch has a great mid-way break area. Friendly area.

We planned out our bike trip to include biking half this trail on Saturday(22 miles) and half the trail on Sunday(24 miles) . We bought the trail passes that cost 4.00 from our hotel, and you do need to put them on your bike. They do have people on the trail that will sell them to you, so bring cash.... More

I traveled from Missouri to Minnesota to visit family and to make this ride. I had ridden portions of the trailer before moving out of state in2003, but this was my first ride from end to end. the ride from Cannon Falls to Red Wing is very enjoyable and offers great views of the valleys and the Cannon River. You... More
