This is a good place to see a prairie garden, hike on the St. Croix River bluffs, camp in a yurt or do some mountain biking.

With the nice weather, my husband and I wanted to get out and see some fall colors while being able to talk and walk. This place was perfect -- although a bit crowded at first. We went on a Sunday afternoon about 3:30. We did the South River Trail, which is said to be 1.6 miles. The distance really depends... More

We stopped at Afton State Park after a fabulous lunch at the Afton Inn. The maps were hard to follow and there's clearly a shortage of signage. The park is gorgeous and the walk along the river (when we finally found it) was well worth our time.

Great day trip for a gorgeous hike along the St. Croix River. $5 day pass and hiking and biking of several different distances. Perfect for a last minute decision near the Twin Cities. Pack a lunch and enjoy an invigorating day. Perfect for fall colors along the river.

Gorgeous State park that has all of the peace and serenity that you'd expect. The park is located right on the edge of the St. Croix river and also has a nice little beach. The trails are wonderful and it doesn't get too crowded, but you will see other hikers out there. There are also maps all over the place,... More

We first got to know this park through a 50K trail race. Trails range from very steep to flat, and from densely wooded to rolling meadows with river views far below. The beach is tranquil with nice sand and big shade trees. The visitor center has useful information. Picnic areas offer a variety of shade and sun. The area is... More

Wonderful summer hiking.....bordered by St.Croix River and acres of Woods and Prairie land. Places for camping, bicycle riding, hiking, walking and cross country skiing in the winter. Good for families and adults. Choices of easy trails and difficult. Trail also leads to a beach area. Rest rooms and drinking fountains available as well as picnic areas.

We take our grandchildren here each year for a cousin getaway. They love the camper cabins. So peaceful and secluded yet they feel safe when it rains because they are "inside a beautiful cabin. Just enough room to eat and a little table to eat at. You are still camping because you need to do your cooking outdoors and that... More

Afton State Park is one of the best parks because it is so close to the Metro area. You can hike year round and always see wildlife. It has an unbelievable trail system. It also has campsites or cabins you can rent. If you need to get away from it all and just be with your friends or family check... More
