Beautiful lake near Douglas Lodge and cabins in the park. Worth stopping in and visiting. Great paths to walk, eat at the lodge (seasonal?) and just sit outside and enjoy the great outdoors.

Nice lake to visit, right on one of the walking trails in Itasca state park. You can walk right down to the shore off of the trail.

This park contains gorgeous old growth pines (300+ years old), as well as newer areas with all the native plants you'd expect . . . wildflowers, berry shrubs, conifers and oaks. The lakes range from charming pothole lakes, to the iconic Lake Itasca where you really can wade (or play, or splash, or soak) in the headwaters of the Mighty... More

Really nice place to visit. To think the " 'Ol' Man" is born right here. Pretty amazing to think about that. Nice walk down to the headwaters. Lovely to see the kids in the water, especially along the wooden walkway. Very pleasant place. We didn't stay long, we had to move on, but so glad we took the time to... More

This is an absolute must see in Minnesota. The park and lake are beautiful! I have only been there in the fall and winter and both times were nice. There are two visitor centers that do an excellent job of explaining how the lake was named and illustrate clearly the path of the Mississippi River. There are trails, boats to... More

Mississippi headwaters begin here. Its a nice place in the Itasca State Park. I visited this place in Fall and colors were amazing. Excellent trails for biking and hiking. Rentals are available easily in the park. Amazing place for family vacation.

This is a beautiful attraction in the beautiful state of Minnesota! I was able to stand where the Mississippi begins. Pretty cool. There are a few trails, a store where you can buy trinkets of Lake Itasca and a "museum" that explains the wildlife and the early days of the parks in the area. It was a pleasant drive on... More

With that said, it is exactly what you would picture! A Minnesota lake should be surrounded with pines, maple and oak trees. There is a swimming area in the park and a marina to rent boats and canoes. I only gave it 4 stars because I do not like the look of weedy lakes.
