My family and I have visited this place before, and it has always been a learning and fun experience, but this was a special event: A Victorian Christmas. They had adults and children wearing Victorian costumes portraying the characters in Maud Hart Lovelace's children's book series. The houses were beautifully decorated for Christmas, and some girls were making popcorn garlands,... More

These homes are historically accurate and well-maintained. They would be the highlight of any fan's trip to Mankato (Deep Valley). There is a small admission fee to the homes, but the gift shop is free. Located in the historic area of Mankato known as Lincoln Park.

I am huge fan of the Betsy, Tacy & Tib book series and loved visiting this charming house. It is a fairly small space but very charming. The people working at the house were extremely knowledgeable and kind. Wonderful selection of items in the gift shop.

We had arranged to have a private tour of the Betsy-Tacy houses and we hit the jackpot. Our guide, Kathryn, knew the author, Maud Hart Lovelace. She was able to context the books and compare the author's actual experiences to those of the characters in the books. The homes are authentically reproduced and provide a look into life at the... I've loved the Betsy-Tacy books since I was a young girl and have read and reread them many times. One of the places I've always wanted to go was Mankato to see where Betsy, Tacy, and Tib lived! The houses are restored to the way they were in the early 1900's. You can also see the bench where Betsy and... More

Costumed characters brought it all to life. Plan to go back during their Deep Valley Homecoming June 26-30, 2015. There are supposed to be many things going on around the town during that time.

Friends who used to live in Mankato enjoyed the guided tour and stories of bringing the Tacy and Betsy homes back to life.

I loved the Betsy Tacy books as a girl and love them still. What a delight to see the houses where the real Betsy and Tacy lived. I am so thankful they have been preserved and maintained for all to see and enjoy.

It is actually 2 houses across the street from each other. They have a variety of activities scheduled throughout the year, depending on the season. Staff is knowledgeable and their gift shop has some interesting items. i would recommend reading at least one of the "Betsy and Tacy" books before visiting or the tour won't make much sense.
