A bit hard to find, in town of Mendota, opposite riverside from Fort Snelling, state does not mark access well---but its a great place for venturing into a unique complex of pre-statehood Minnesota history. It complements visits to Fort Snelling-the American outpost built on a strategic bluff at confluence of Minnesota and Mississippi.This area was the settlement gate for decades... More

The guide was inappropriate and poor quality at this job. She stated that the Indians "sold" their land to the whites ( would you sell something that in your belief system, you don't own, where you can't understand the terms and language, and have no means of holding the purchaser accountable?). I think it is a little bit of a challenge to get to, but worth the trip if you are interested in Minnesota History. I would definitly combine it with a trip to the Alexander Ramsey House in St. Paul. They do well with kids too.
