We were shocked at the aggressive way we were being persuaded to join English Heritage when entering. Headphones were free but we did not want them. Each room had a room number but no explanation. Often there are plastic sheets at other places explaining what...More

Popped in as a secondary visit having come down to see Deal castle first, but should have come here instead. Much more going on in the house itself and the beautiful grounds. Parking easy, signposted clearly and ample parking up by the sheep! House as...More

The gardens are wonderful to view and walk around, our favorite area being the formal pond and its planting 'locked' away behind gates. The tearooms were crowded the day we went due to a large booking in the restaurant, therefore, the queue for food/ coffee was...More

My family and I enjoyed our visit to the castle, especially the stunning gardens. We roamed around the rooms in the castle quite quickly. I was disappointed that there were hardly any information signs up in the rooms. I think you were expected to use...More

Having just visited Deal Castle, Walmer Castle is on a much larger scale. This is reflected in the entrance price, roughly double that of Deal, though as English Heritage members we weren't affected. Had we not been, I might have felt that £10 was a...More

There is a direct train line from Dover to Walmer but it is about a 30 minute slow walk. The buses from the centre of town do not go to the castle itself but the Salisbury Road bus stop is about a 10 minute walk.

Nice venue, reasonable cafe good tourist shop.Although one assistant was too pushy. The visit to the actual castle good easily be done in 90 minutes - subject to your interest level of course.
