A wonderful resource at the edge of the City, the Chain of Lakes are easily walkable, are bordered by parkways with some beautiful houses, bluffs, or parkland, beaches and recreational areas for play, piers for fishing, pathes for jogging, etc. With the Downtown buildings looming several miles away, the lakes are close to transportation, and the happening "Uptown" neighborhoods and... My wife and I truly enjoyed the tranquility and beauty of the lakes and forests that surround them. We went for many a quiet stroll enjoying the wildlife that appeared often to our delight.

We love taking a nice Sunday drive. Even better if we can go on weekday. Much less traffic. Whenever you go, be sure to get out and walk-around Lake Calhoun is probably the nicest walk.scenic, manageable, and great views. The Lake Harriet rose garden is amazing, ang that lake is a good one for paddle boarding or kayaking.I live here in a... More

The chain of lakes may be my favorite place in the twin cities. The walking/running and bike paths are amazing. We frequently rent paddleboards at Lake Calhoun. They're also all very pet-friendly.

We rented bikes and road around Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet, and Lake of the Isles. To find an enchanting and bustling place of beauty in the middle of the city was such a wonderful discovery! I really got a taste of why so many people love Minnesota. I was visiting from CA and can compare it to the nicer beach... More

If you like to get out and feel the lake breeze, whether the lakes are frozen or solid, listen to bird-song, the asphalt paths are a walking paradise -- if you allow for weather! There are also bike paths on the lakes. In the warm season there are paddlers, sailors, swimmers, and beach-goers enjoying the water and wooded views. Through... More

We love the lakes. we moved to within a mile form the lakes chain 40 years ago to raise our cildren and participate in the beauty and excitement of the lakes. From walks around the lakes all year round, to biking, swimming, kayaking, rollerblading, and just being there, we love it and know that visitors love it as well. Frequently,... More

I wasn't particularly impressed with the chain of lakes. Perhaps I'm not fond of nature, but I found the area and the lakes to be uninspiring. I wouldn't recommend going out of the way to see them.
