If you like to get out and feel the lake breeze, whether the lakes are frozen or solid, listen to bird-song, the asphalt paths are a walking paradise -- if you allow for weather! There are also bike paths on the lakes. In the warm season there are paddlers, sailors, swimmers, and beach-goers enjoying the water and wooded views. Through... More

We love the lakes. we moved to within a mile form the lakes chain 40 years ago to raise our cildren and participate in the beauty and excitement of the lakes. From walks around the lakes all year round, to biking, swimming, kayaking, rollerblading, and just being there, we love it and know that visitors love it as well. Frequently,... More

I wasn't particularly impressed with the chain of lakes. Perhaps I'm not fond of nature, but I found the area and the lakes to be uninspiring. I wouldn't recommend going out of the way to see them.

I love this area of Minneapolis. You can enjoy a walk, run, or bicycle ride around the lakes. In the summer you can rent canoes, kayaks, paddle boards and sailing. Playgrounds, beach, fishing, picnic areas. Concerts at Lake Harriet. Rose garden is beautiful. Winter you can enjoy ice fishing. All around fun. Restaurants in walking distance. Whole Foods near by.

I have a canoe on the channel between Cedar Lake and Lake of the Isles, and I would highly recommend renting a canoe (or getting in touch with me) and canoeing or kayaking the chain of lakes. Really, really beautiful place within the city, I can recommend it enough! Even just walking around the lakes is a wonderful way to... More

Took a walk around one of the larger lakes. The views were beautiful. A trail runs around the lakes and it has plenty of seats to stop and rest. Great area to unwind and recharge the batteries.

The Chain of Lakes is a great place to experience the seasons in an urban setting. I have walked and biked around the lakes during all four seasons. The views of the change from season to season whether across the lakes and up close are better than a post card. While summer weekends are congested during the week or during... More

From biking, hiking or canoeing around the lakes you will get all the exercise you need and enjoy it at the same time! There are sailboats, paddle boats and paddle boards to rent or watch. There's also a great fish eatery with all outdoor seating and good prices for the quality called the "Tin Fish" on Lake Calhoun. Beautiful area... More

There are a variety of boats, canoes, etc for renting and spending your time peacefully around the lakes. The access is easy but it can be crowded during holidays.
