We saw the upper locks as we traveled down the Mississpi. Yet another must when planning to visit Minneapolis

We took a free walkabout tour at 3pm. One of the rangers, Brian, brought us around. What a treat. It is really worth our time to be able to see the dam up close and walked all the way across the lock, nearer to the waterfall. Brian's explanations and stories are educational and entertaining. We are glad that these rangers... More

If you like learning about the history of the city and National Parks, make sure you check this place out. Only takes about an hour but you can learn a lot. A ton of info on how they created the lock and dam, incredible views and hopefully it's a nice day to get out and see it from the stone... More

The National Park Service is now managing the lock and dam since it is closed for navigation. They offer three tours a day everyday and the tours are led by a ranger and go out on to the lock. Lot's of history and cool information that I never knew. When I went Al Franken was getting a special tour too,... More

This is a good place to see a lock & dam system. It's very interesting to watch the water level changed for boats to pass thru the lock & dam, especially a big boat.

I've been through the lock several times on chartered boat rides. That is pretty cool. If you walk there, it is accessible while you are doing all of the other riverfront parks and activities. They weren't giving tours when I was there. I think they are no longer giving tours.

We checked the area out and were glad we did. The river views and dam views are nice and the backdrop of the city in the other direction is nice. It was chilly but worth the walk, you would see it all in 30 mins or less. There is cheap public parking right here and the old mill along the... More

A good place to spend your evening by taking a long walk on the bridge and see the river water flow through the dam and see the bridges build over the river for vehicular movement. The night lighting is also good with a good view of Gopher and the saw mill and the lighting beneath the bridge.

This is a very pretty part of town, worth roaming around for 30-60 mins. Or biking around. Nice to see the ruins and get that piece of history from the mill times. We were fortunate to be at the lock right at the time the park ranger was to start a tour. So we decided since it was free we'd... More
