We spent an afternoon at the park. The fire tower is a highlight but the climb to the top is challenging. Historical sites and walking trails are excellent. The fall colors were beautiful - oaks, maples and aspen. We plan on going back again!
My family and I have enjoyed going to Kathi every year for the past 12 years (sometimes multiple times a year) and there is literally something for everyone! Observation tower for the brave, Hiking, swimming, fishing, camping, history, not to mention unlimited wild life experience, a great place to go to get in touch with nature and I learn something... I have visited Kathie state park for many years. When camping the rangers are very helpful. The trails are clean and easy to follow. There is a sledding hill in the horse camp area with wood stove and full indoor picnic area; area learning center, swimming, park, and fishing. Those are just some of the stuff it's a great stop!!
Large nice sites , private , nice grounds , for sure lights out at 10 and whisper talk only or they will be on you , the security guy was very nosey and annoying always having an excuse to come on our site . We finally told him we were upset with him and why , he than stopped because... More
It's only $5 a day for a car. They ancient Dakota village was fascinating. The trails are beautiful and the park is well maintained. The touch the earth trail for educational. The receptionists were so helpful. The bugs are huge - bring insect repellent. We rented canoes and fished the river. It would be a wonderful place to kayak, also.... More
The grandkids favorite activity was tobogganing by far! Great hill they could go fast, yet safely. Very nice to have a warming hut right next to the hill. The wonderful staff even had a fire going. We wished we would have brought goodies for an indoor picnic as there were tables inside, restrooms, and found it clean and cozy.
We have gone here in the spring, the summer and the fall. Guess we better check it out in the winter. They offer a lot of ranger led programs and have some beautiful hiking. It is a rather large state park. We have had some luck fishing here too. Kids love catching frogs in the pond.
We decided to try something closer to home for the weekend. It is a little over an hour from home. We loved the private camping spots and the clean facilities.
