Built in 1927, the Chateau was one of the most elaborate theatres built in Rochester in the early 1900s. The exterior sunburst design marquee is lit with 636 light bulbs. Its unique French Village decor includes interior balconies and turrets and, on the ceiling, stars in the night sky. Refurbished in 1994, this elegant old theatre now houses a Barnes and Noble Bookstore and Starbucks Cafe.

I really like this former theater, turned bookstore, turned who knows what is next. I never knew this building as a theater, but when it was a B & N Bookstore I enjoyed perusing books while I admired the very unique and decorative interior of...More

This is my favorite theatre in Rochester. I don't need all the frills of a bar and restaurant in the theatre. Keep the prices down and let me see a movie.

I went to this theater as a child- it was always so magical- can't wait to see what they will do with it now- you can view the outside- I don't think the inside is open at the current time.

The last tenant for this building was Barnes and Noble. The city has since bought the building and is contemplating next steps for Destination Medical Center (DM)

This was a great place to visit when it was a Barnes and Noble bookstore. You can probably only see the outside now.

This was originally opened in 1927 as a silent movie theater then it adapted to the talkies. It ended up as a Barnes and Noble bookstore but they pulled out suddenly in 2014. Their concrete first (USA second) floor is still in situ but apparently...More

We went all through the theater when it was still a bookstore in 2014. It was lovely and I could visualized the theater of my childhood. So ornate, how the theater goers of the past must have enjoyed such beautiful surroundings. The theater now has...More

This was one of my FAVORITE spots to be when had Mayo appointments. It's such a shame to be gone!! I sincerely hope they put something unique in there...not a Walgreens or something!!! (No offense Walgreens, I just don't want you in this building.)

This used to be a wonderful old fashion interior movie theater. Then Barnes and Nobel bought it. The bookstore was excellent, connected via skyway to the Mayo Clinic, hotels, shops and restaurants. There was a coffee bar in the bookstore. Last month, the entire store...More
