Shipwrecks from a mighty 1905 November gale prompted this rugged landmark's construction. Completed by the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1910, Split Rock Light Station soon became one of Minnesota's best known landmarks. Restored to its 1920s appearance, the light station offers a glimpse of lighthouse life in this remote and spectacular setting. Split Rock Lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark.

I wished the parking lot is bigger. Our favorite part is the hiking trails of Splitrock Lighthouse since you don't have to pay $10 per person or more just to get in and see the Lighthouse. Just parked at the scenic view for the Lighthouse and walked down to the bike trail and you're on your perfect hiking trail with... More

Recently visited a icon on the north shore and Split Rock Lighthouse. Clean wonderful grounds around the lighthouse. During our visit the lighthouse was not open for viewing as far as tours due to it still being closed for the season, but we were still able to get onto the viewing deck with magnificent views of Lake Superior. Nice stop... More

Split Rock Lighthouse is a beautiful lighthouse with fun history. I have been to the park usually every year since I was young but was able to take my 11 year old sister for her first time. She loved it. There is a quick little hike down to the lake front to see the lighthouse from below. Iconic MN north... More

A trip to the North shore is not complete without a trip to Split Rock Lighthouse. Take a walk around any season. We spent a lot of time taking photos of the lighthouse.

This is a wonderful location, well maintained and specially interesting for taking pictures of sunsets, sunrises and moonrise with Lake Superior as your background

This is a great example of the landscape of Minnesota on the North Shore of Lake Superior. It is about a 3-1/2 hour trip from the Minneapolis/St. Paul location but is well worth the drive. There a(Make sure that you take the "old 61" turnoff north of Duluth to follow the shore line more closely if you want the more... More

I finally made it to the lighthouse and it was well worth it. I didn't do the guided tour but did do the climb and spent a good hour or two wandering around the grounds taking pictures and reading about the history. Very fascinating to think about how they built the lighthouse prior to there being a road that went... More

I have some of his art works in our home on our walls. That's what makes this review extra special. Done in August of ((2000 not 2016)). We feel our 50-State Quest ending maybe as soon as next year in 2001. So this state becomes our 45th mixed in with 4 other states. Lighthouses were and still are one of... More

Very interesting. Really, no road to this place when it was built. How hard did these people work compared to us today? The guides are great. The grounds are spotless, The gift shop is great too. Liked everything. Windy. Don't drive by. Indoor and Outdoor.

We visited Split Rock with a guest visiting from Spain. The lighthouse tour is quick, and provides a nice snapshot of what the keeper's life would have been like. The grounds are well-cared for and beautiful. The lighthouse is iconic, and definitely worth a quick stop.
