Interesting stop

Visited Winterville Mounds while in Greenville for the MS River Marathon. Interesting video at the visitors center telling the story of the mounds. Well worth the time.

Small but interesting museum filled with artifacts. It is situated on a very important native American mounds. It is a large park with plenty of room to roam and stretch your legs. Don't miss the red ear slider turtles in the creek who happily come toward the bridge when visitors offer them lettuce or other vegetables!

This leg of our road trip was taking us from Memphis to Vicksburg and to break the journey we planned to stop at the Winterville Mounds. We didn’t really know what to expect and this mound building was new to us. It's a smart looking museum, just on the main road, with plenty of parking. We were the only people... More

My husband is an archaeology buff and really enjoyed this mini museum. Staff is friendly and helpful. There is no admission charge, donations are accepted. Worth a stop.

I agree with a previous review that this is unexpectedly interesting. The video about the mound building is good and the wall around the property is a good way to stretch your legs as a break on the long drive from Clarksdale to Vicksburg. You will also learn a lot

The road from Clarksdale to Vicksburg is pretty dull, so it’s worth stopping here for more than just the toilet facilities! (No refreshments though.) We had never heard of the practice of building on mounds. The film is a good introduction and the museum is small enough to get round on a short stop.

The local Garden Club had bough the site back in the 1960's to save the place from destruction. There is a museum and Park Ranger. In 2009 the AmericaCorps volunteers cleared the trees from the 13 mounds but it has grown up. The Garden Club received a $300k grant to clear the trees, but work couldn't began because part of... This is a great park to see Indian mounds that are beautifully preserved and of incredible size. I've seen small ones all my life but never anything like these. If you're in the area, it would be a big mistake not to take a look even if it's only for a quick drive by; it's only six miles out of... More

The Winterville Mounds are a place to take your kids, we had a lots of good times walking up the mountains looking at the artifacts, fishing and playing on the grounds. Please visit when you are passing thru Winterville. I haven't lived there since 1978 but when I visit I stop by Winter Mounds.
