Coming from a state that has actual lakes in it, I would not call this a lake. More of a dammed up river. It is difficult to find places to view the river, but if you do find it, it does offer a nice view, especially in the more wild and scenic areas.

Lake Taneycomo is part of a chain of lakes on the White River, a major river drainage here in the Midwest. North is the Missouri River and south is the Arkansas, all three dumping into the Mississippi. Powersite Dam, which holds back Taneycomo's water, is the oldest power dam west of the Mississippi built in 1913. So to answer your... More

I've enjoyed fishing for trout on Taneycomo for years. I have seldom been skunked, but always have a good time. The water is cold and normally calm. It is fed by releasing cold water from the base of Table Rock Lake while generating power. Good place for trout fisherman along the entire length of the lake.

We camped on Lake Taneycomo at Branson Lakeside RV Park. Water is fabulous for fishing and boating but not for swimming. The water remains a constant cold temperature below 50*.

We camped at the camp ground right next to Lake Taneycomo. We would wake up and fish in the morning. It's very beautiful and peaceful. Extremely cold water.

Nice trip on the Lake. The captain was very informative on the history of the area. He also pointed out many birds, animals, etc. It's about 2 hr. trip with lunch. You can sit in a/c on the first level or go up above to the "fresh air" seating. Very enjoyable. Highly recommend.

Taneycomo lake is more of a river than a lake and is icy cold water because of the proximity of the dam. Along side of the lake is Branson Landing with good restaurants and shopping. There is a city campground that is very popular as folks with the big rigs like to stay for a couple of weeks to trout... More

We only saw it near the dam, but it sure is a popular place for fishing. Non-resident fishing license is $7.00 a day, or $42.00 for a week. You also have to have a trout permit, which is $5.00 and good for a year. My husband has waders, so he was right out in the water, which is fairly cold.... More

Went last October and was blessed to see the trees changing colors all along the river. Absolutely gorgeous! Quite a few boats all over.
