When I was a kid Rockaway Beach on Lake Taneycomo was THE place for Mid-Westerners to vacation. That was before Table Rock Dam was built. Lake Tanycomo was a great Catfish lake, now it's not. Bass and Trout mostly now. The nicer restaurants, resorts and family activities are all up on Table Rock Lake and in Branson proper (which is... More

The bustle and traffic of Branson are fine, and the scenery on the many roads to the many tourist destinations is lovely. But the lake offers something different. Cool, quiet walks, the sound of water, fishing if you like it, time away from crowds. You can be close to town or far away. The lake system is enormous and fun... More

Enhances the landing of Branson scene. Picturesque. A great backdrop to the shopping along the Lake. You probably need to get out on it to really appreciate it. Many did.

This is a very scenic lake, or probably river as it should be described. The trout fishing is hot, and cold. If you are lucky enough to be there when the fish hatchery releases it is very awesome. The river level is very dependent upon the Table Rock lake dam water releases. This can be small to very dramatic depending... More

Lake Taneycomo is the laid back little sister to Table Rock and was formed when a hydroelectric dam was constructed to provide electricity to this part of rural Missouri. We were on the lake on October 8th, 2016 for a Lake Queen cruise. This lake is extremely laid back and easy going after you get below Branson landing. We stayed... More

Coming from a state that has actual lakes in it, I would not call this a lake. More of a dammed up river. It is difficult to find places to view the river, but if you do find it, it does offer a nice view, especially in the more wild and scenic areas.

Lake Taneycomo is part of a chain of lakes on the White River, a major river drainage here in the Midwest. North is the Missouri River and south is the Arkansas, all three dumping into the Mississippi. Powersite Dam, which holds back Taneycomo's water, is the oldest power dam west of the Mississippi built in 1913. So to answer your... More

I've enjoyed fishing for trout on Taneycomo for years. I have seldom been skunked, but always have a good time. The water is cold and normally calm. It is fed by releasing cold water from the base of Table Rock Lake while generating power. Good place for trout fisherman along the entire length of the lake.
