We hunted for over 2 hours in this town looking for this site. Stopped and asked several locals how to get to it and they had no idea what we were looking for. I guess they don't go there. Come to find out we had driven past it several times. Not well marked. Only has a kiosk with information about... More

A car park with an information board. The site has no other interesting features. More knowledge can be gained from the Internet. Of value to historic and Civil War enthusiasts. Otherwise pass it by.

It was a drizzly day so it was nice the kiosk had a shelter. There was a ton of info about this early Civil War battle - allegedly the first land battle of the Civil War - It was a lot to take in and piece together and the quality was iffy - some water damage and deterioration of the... More

The battle site is on the outskirts of Carthage, MO in a very scenic site with a small creek running through it. Unfortunately, someone did not enjoy its beauty as much as we did as vandals had done some spray painting of the parking lot the night before but park rangers were already on hand and taking care of the... Simlar to the civil war museum. Tastefully displayed with lots of information. Certainly a group destination or tours. Way things are going this type of stuff will be gone in the US 😡. Its part of our history. GO see it, it's worth your time.

we have gone here several times to look at the history write ups. So happy when we see a town that takes a little park and gives you a family area to learn and share with the kids The adults would learn from this too........it is not a big area but gives you the story and directions to follow the... I stopped here on a whim when I saw the brown historic site sign on the road. I cannot express how grateful I am that I did stop. This is beautiful and full of history. There is a little hike around a spring that is easy for most all to accomplish. There are nice tables around so you can sit... More

This historic site is located just East of Carthage. It's open during the day, free of charge. A gate has it locked up at night. There is a nice walking trail that goes up the cliff and around the little pond. Fun place to walk the dogs. Rumor has it there are caves in this area that lead to underground... More

The State Historic Site is really just a grassy area and adjacent parking lot, featuring a text-heavy interpretive kiosk. The site itself has some significance as the site of the Union encampment before the battle and the site of the Union army's last stand. But there is no site interpretation and the site is so small as to be more... More
