We love caves, springs, rivers, hikes, etc. All things outdoors basically! This thing is amazing!! We then took the trail over to Cave Spring. The trail is not well marked and it is difficult to tell which end of the trail you are entering. The sign also says the trail is 4.6 miles, but it's really about 6 miles if you hike the entire thing. The Cave Spring at the end was very cool, but 6 miles was a lot for us.
We only know it's 6 miles because we met a lady who was using the AllTrails App and that's what it said.

This attraction is well worth the drive. I'm very surprised that it's so unknown. It's a massive sinkhole that leads down into a 80-100 deep underground lake. When you take the steps down into the hole, a sensor will activate a light so that you can see into the lake, which is far below the viewing platform. It's an incredible experience. The water from the underground lake apparently flows from Cave Spring which is about a mile away (you can easily hike to this cave from Devil's Well.) There is also this gorgeous lookout on the Cave Spring trail. The whole park is beautiful and unique. Cave Spring (if you hike there) was apparently the spot that famous artist Thomas Hart Benton (an Ozarks native) painted his famous work "Cave Spring."
One word of advice for getting to the park: do not take the route with Aker's Ferry. The ferry is not in service (even though all the signs claim that it is.) Take 19 up there instead.

For cave lovers or geology fans, Devil's Well is a beautiful site to see. You can peek into a sinkhole to view the large underground lake 100 feet below. The area surrounding it is quite lovely as well.
There are stairs leading down to the viewing area. They were wet and slippery during our visit, so wear shoes with a good grip. There is a light down there but we brought a strong flashlight that really helped.
You must take a rough gravel road to get here but if you can make it, it is definitely worth it. There were several washed out spots and it was slow going but we made it in a small sedan. Pick up an Ozark National Scenic Riverways map for the route and talk with a National Park Service Ranger for current conditions on the road.

Amazing! Steps going down are cool & the temp changes the closer you get to the well. Hold your littles hands!

We were staying near Eminence Mo and knew the Ozark National Scenic Waterways had more to offer. There are several areas of interest near Devil's Well including Welch Spring, which we also stopped at. The road was fine to get down and there were already several people there with a parking area and bathroom. There are a few flights of steps down to the well until you reach the bottom platform of the sinkhole. A light turns on where you can look down into the sinkhole and see a large underground lake. It felt cool down there and water was dripping all around with moss. The steps back up aren't overly strenuous. Great find!

It was a moderate hike but worth it to see the cave springs. Up hill coming back but not too bad! The sinkhole was scary but awesome to see and the cave spring water was blue gorgeous. Definitely want to take a canoe trip there next time and swim!

If you enjoy springs, caves, and natural scenery you need to visit Devil's Well. Due to the depth of the well if you bring children keep a tight grip on them.
