Grenfell House is the restored residence of Sir Wilfred Thomason Grenfell. It is part of the Grenfell Historic Properties which also include The Grenfell Interpretation Centre, Grenfell Handicrafts, Tea House HIll & walking trail, the Dock House Museum and the Jordi Bonet Murrals at the Rontunda. Sir Wilfred was a young medical doctor who came to Newfoundland in 1892 and left behind a legacy of schools, orphanages, coop's and medical services, which still exits today.

Dr. Grenfell's home is indeed unique to the north and reflects the era in which he lived here with his family. The Grenfell Historical Society does maintenance on the house on a yearly basis to preserve it to it's original condition. Thanks for your recommendation...More

May have reviewed the actual house and the centre on the wrong pages... Sorry! The centre itself is a very interesting compilation of Grenfell's contributions to Newfoundland. Lots of information and artifacts to look at including models of the hospital ships and the surgical equipment...More

We were running short on time so went to see the house first.After seeing the house we needed to backtrack and see the museum to learn more about the man, his mission and its impact on the people.
