Don't be surprised to see one or more of the actual excavators during your visit. I love the Arabia: so much to see. Interactive, kid friendly, informative. Nice gift shop, snack and souvenier shops. Free parking. Enjoy the rivermarket and unique shops and restaurants all around.

The Arabia Steamboat Museum has a great presentation of the Arabia Steamboat mystic and an outstanding display of artifacts. Also a working laboratory you can watch and ask questions. Really nice and family friendly. It is "disability accessible". I highly recommend it.

This museum is a treasure. The story of how it came to be is fascinating (and remarkable and improbable). The museum's contents provide a unique glimpse into what frontier life was like in America in the early mid-1800's. If you're a visitor to KC, try to find an hour our two to visit this. If you live in KC, be... More

Unbelievable amount of stuff on display from this old steamboat which was recovered from the Missouri River in 1856 and was recovered in 1988. Cargo contains everything from rubber shoes to matches to silk fabric. We spent 3 hours and it was not enough time. If you're into history or the Old West this is well worth a visit. Leave... More

This is a must see time capsule find. The story of the family and friends was enjoyable. Very nice video but a see their find and ongoing work is amazing. Great for families of children to view the past.

Went on a Friday and had a wonderful time. The tour started with an informative oral overview by the guide of the steamboat and the accident. Then we watched a movie about the find and the gossip excavation. After that, a member of the family came and shared. Finally, our guide took over and explained what we would see in... More

Don't miss this hidden gem of a museum when visiting Kansas City! We saw the brochure and thought it looked interesting and were so glad that we took the time to visit it. The guided tour provided excellent information about how the sunken steamboat was discovered, excavated, and the context of this era in our nation's history - 1856. We... More

We always take our visiting friends to this museum whenever they come to Kansas City. It is a must see for kids of all ages! We took two young children to look at the exhibits. We were served by a most knowledgeable and passionate volunteer. Nothing quite beats real live narration (with a passion). This set a great example for... More

First time I went to see it was probably the mid 1980's, shortly after they opened. I fell in love with this place, it's by far the most fascinating, interesting museum ever!!! I went back a couple years later and they had more artifacts on display. I have introduced Arabia to several people, each time of course I went with... More

Wonderful museum with such a overwhelming amount of recovered items that can be seen only here. It has everything from an 1880's steamboat that was to start a new city north of KC....boots, clothing, buttons, women's perfume, jars and jars of canned goods.knives, guns,, everything for a 1880's kitchen: pots, pans, silverware, cups, bowls. I've never seen such a collection of... More
