The Museum of Westward Expansion closed, pending installation of all new museum exhibits. As of March 2, 2015, entry-only ticket or tram ticket required to enter Arch.

The nation's tallest monument at 630 feet, the Gateway Arch has beckoned visitors since June 1967. The Gateway Arch commemorates Thomas Jefferson and the role St. Louis played in the westward expansion of the United States.

A visit to St. Louis isn't complete without standing at the Arch's base and playing professional photographer, but the view from the outside is only half of the experience. Attractions within the Arch include the Journey to the Top (the last tram leaves one hour before closing); educational programs (will be housed at the Old Courthouse); award-winning documentary movie, Monument to the Dream; and a gift shop.

Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Note: the address shown is for the Old Courthouse which is acting as the Gateway Arch Ticketing and Visitor Center throughout construction. Pedestrian entrance to the Arch Grounds is at Walnut Street at Memorial Drive or via the Grand Staircase from the riverfront.

If you want to see everything..then this is the thing to do. It is a magnificent structure. The bad thing is that the area is under construction. So park somewhere close and walk over. They sell out quickly so order your tickets ahead of time and on line (make sure you are able to print them or you will have... More

The Arch is a really cool place and they have done great things with the grounds. Once you get up to the top the views of St. Louis are unbeatable. The elevator pod they have you ride is very small and they fit 5 people in this. So claustrophobic people might have an issue. It is also a bit expensive... More

Worth the time and money! A true monument to American engineering! Be sure to watch the video of the construction! Amazing! Nice exhibit below showing frontier life! The Arch truly marks that St Louis was and in many ways "The Gateway to the West"!

I went here with my family when we were visiting my brother at his college. We went up in the arch and it felt like it was something from the Jetsons because of how compact the elevator was. When we got up to the top I looked outside of the windows and the view was great.

Standing beside the Mississippi and seeing the arch is a breathtaking moment that reminds me there was a time people risked their lives to go west. They are currently doing quite a bit of construction to update the grounds so not everything was accessible and we couldn't go into the arch (sad) but you must go here if you're in... More

I visited the Gateway Arch towards late in the evening. Although its magnificent due to its size but its not really very attractive. Its more of a been there done that icon in St Louis. The place around wasn't lit very well when it was dark. There was no atmosphere around it which could make you feel its a city... More

All stories of a long ride up to the top are gone, the ride up moves at a faster speed and the car doesnt re-adjust too much. I wouldn't recommend it for people who have claustrophobia as there is very little room in the cars and at the top you are with 40+ people and it could get cramped.

Bring sneakers great location to walk and see the river. And plan ahead if you want to ride up to the top. Also they are doing construction on a new museum so walk around to the front to get in.

I must first off say that the Arch is a true engineering & building marvel! Consider that it was put up in the 1960's where the slide rule was what was being used! The view from the top is spectacular! According to the ranger, you can see out about 30 miles! Just to put it in perspective, the top of... More

This is a must visit attraction if visiting the St. Louis area. The ride up to the top of the Arch takes approximately 4 minutes, the ride down approximately 3 minutes. I was a little worried of the ride, because I am clausterphopic, but I did great. It was worth it! When you get to the top of the Arch... More
