Enjoy getting outside and enjoying the natural beauty of the area while seeing and learning about animals from Africa, Tropical Asia, South America, Australia and North America. See the reptiles at the Ambler Diversity of Life center, ride the Titus Express miniature train, get up close and personal with the giraffes on the giraffe deck (giraffe feeding an additional fee but observation deck is free) and visit the petting zoo. It was a nice zoo. We did really enjoy getting to see the elephants and feeding the giraffes. So, if you're in the area and you like zoos, I can recommend going......But whatever you do, DON'T ride the train! It was a total waste of money! All you do is ride around in a circle twice and look at what seems to be the sewage pond. We think the ducks were laughing at us as we went around. :-)

This is nice zoo with polite staff. As an adult who's been to bigger zoos this was ok but not impressive. As for my kiddos under 10 they loved it. It took us about 2 hours to walk it all except the reptile house (too scary for mama & kiddos) ;) Most of the animals were either napping or eating. The otters and giraffes were the more lively ones! Also all of the water fountains have been shut off so you better bring your own water to drink or buy some at their cafe. Now for lunch the Country Cafe in the zoo is way overpriced as far I'm concerned. We had 3 kids meals and 1 hot dog meal, and 1 personal pan pizza all for over $60! Ouch! You eat outside next to the playground of screaming kids ;) All and all kids enjoyed it but we probably won't come back.

We loved feeding the giraffes and seeing them so close up. The splash area and the train could use some improvement. Overall it is a nice zoo and we had a great day.

I have gone to the DPZ many times over the years and have gone more frequently since having two kiddos. We mainly enjoyed our time and my girls had a blast but I couldn’t help but be bothered by the alligator/crocodile enclosure. He’s in a glass case on a fake rock with some nasty water to get into. I am hoping and praying he is allowed to go outside into another enclosure if he wants to, and is not confined to this glass case 24/7. It has literally haunted me since our last visit. I’m not here to give a bad review but in hopes that someone can assure me that this poor little guy has a better enclosure than he appears to have….

We visited Dickerson Park Zoo on a rainy day in August. It was lovely. The animals were very active and the zoo was not very crowded. We were so impressed with the way the zoo is set up into different habitats and continents. The signage is terrific! The park is immaculate with large beautiful animal enclosures. The keepers and other staff were super friendly and willing to answer questions. Everyone seemed to enjoy their job. We rode on the train around the lake, too and that was fun. The engineer was very friendly and he circled the lake twice. The gift shop was very well stocked with good gifts for everyone but I do wish they had some kind of reptile or amphibian hat or shirt for our herp loving daughter. All in all it was a super fun day and we would certainly go again if we are in Springfield.

It’s a adequate sized zoo for the city and good for small to tweens. A few of several good animals that the kids will like and it’s easy to get around in.
Reasonable priced and a nice day outing for a family .

Just wow, what a fantastic zoo. I was pretty tired by the end of this hilly walk. I went straight to my motel and took a power nap before continuing on to my evening activities. The otter exhibit was being cleaned, so no otters today atleast. Took frequent 5 to 10 minute breaks on benches due to hilly inclined walking conditions. Don't bring grandma and grandpa to this zoo. Enjoyed the Tiger exhibit the most because the Tiger comes so close to you that a little girl there was to scared to walk up to the exhibit because she thought the Tiger was going to eat her, lol.

We enjoyed an afternoon here on a weekday in early March. We drove to Springfield in time for a picnic in the park outside the zoo for lunch. The parking lot was pretty full and a short line to buy tickets.
The zoo is in a wooded setting with large trees and many water features. It's laid out so you can get around and see all the exhibits without much backtracking. We spent almost three hours and saw everything and took time feeding animals at the petting area as well as the highlight of feeding giraffes!!
Enjoyed all the areas including the Missouri animals as well as other continents. Most exhibits could be seen from multiple viewpoints.
It was a little crowded the day we went but people were very courteous about spacing out and taking turns at the viewing areas. Nice little gift shop. It was a fun afternoon and the seven year old had a blast. Glad we went, would return.

This is a very good Zoo, easy to maneuver with walkways thru-out, does have some up hill inclines but not bad for older travelers. Has good interactive displays and things for children to do and picture taking for parents. Good exploring zoo for all ages . Only wish was parts that were closed due to COVID, were open for visit, most were indoor activities/exhibits. Took us approximately 2.5 hours to complete but we did enjoy the area that the zoo was sit in, and good speed to enjoy all animals and exhibits, good gift shop and reasonable priced for enjoyment that zoos bring.
